The resignation will quickly be forgotten while the offence will remain in the public eye for the next four years as a pass card for every rapist, thug and thief in Reform and the Tory party. Labour just as bad, whatabout fraudster Haigh? they’re all the same, blah, blah.

Haigh should also be expelled from Labour and kicked out of the Commons. By-election NOW!

No this was a total non story from start to finish.

Good to see that they've learnt from the Tory entitlement years that trying to style it out never works. Resign, do good constituency work, keep your head down, you'll be back in a couple of years.

Did she hide it? Deny it? If both answers are no, there's no story.

You missed out that Starmer should be tried for war crimes at the Hague and the King should send for Farage to form a government of national unity.

We really do deserve better a troll, I'll put an ad on Twitter this afternoon.

Given that Louise Haigh’s last venture into the public eye was the P&O Ferries business you might be looking at the wrong wing of the party here.

She made a mistake, realised it, then was advised to "no comment" it when some police officer picked up on it. The conviction, or sanction, or whatever you want to call it, was spent.

So, first of all, somebody picks her up on a detail in what must be an absolute first - the police following up a lead in a mugging case. Then they sit on this nugget of information for years, not releasing it when it might prevent her becoming an MP, but waiting for...now.

What's happened in recent weeks? Well, we've learned that one of the ReFuck MPs was considerably more brutal to his then-girlfriend than he made out. We also have a leader of the opposition who states that she has committed a cyber-crime offence against another MP.

This might be "all as bad as each other" stuff, and it might be a shot across the bows of the government - "we've got all the dirt, now behave yourselves". Might be both. Something stinks here, and the speed with which it's made the front pages of both the Mail and Times is to be noted too.

For what, exactly? Having a past that had been fully disclosed to relevant parties that doesn’t preclude her from doing anything she has done?

Also, I do hope this current very obvious harassment campaign backfires by stoking up some desire for Leveson 2. It would be absolutely worth the press monstering, because as they’ve helpfully shown that’s going to happen regardless.

Labour has a very poor record in vetting potential candidates. Remember Rochdale?

If Haigh had admitted the charge at the time, this wouldn't have happened. We now face the prospect of a recall petition for Haigh to be expelled from the Commons. That means not just one, but TWO potentially damaging by-elections (Mike Amesbury still hasn't resigned despite being charged for assault).

Make no mistake, this government is lurching from crisis to crisis, and no wonder people want them out now.

Ukraine has been greenlit to use British missiles against Russia and Starmer has taken steps towards a closer relationship with the EU which will enrage the Putin fanboys and girls in the Labour Party.
