isn't ambition and being not very nice a more likely explanation?

Probably, but she seems to delight in it.

Same as Birbalsingh - sailed through school, told that she's brilliant, runs into real people and comes unstuck. Falls back on the Norma Desmond explanation.

I've just watched clips of Braverman's speech in Washington DC, she was addressing a room with about 20 peoples in it. In what capacity was she addressing this think tank? If she was there as a government minister on official business presumably the taxpayer is picking up the tab for her blatant pitch to be the next Tory leader.
I think she would like Rishi to sack her then she can walk away from the utter mess she has created at the Home Office. She could then claim she wanted to be tough on immigrants but the prime minister failed to back her.

Wondering how many would be present and whom. 10 are probably journalists and the rest homophobic loons from the think tank.

She's speaking at the American Enterprise Institute, so would think some wingnut connected with them is paying. Given that the speech could have been given to 20 people in this country, I'm wondering how the Home Secretary has enough spare time for this.

Did I understand it right, or was she really claiming that simply being gay rather than being gay in a country where that is illegal and/or your sexual orientation actually causes you to fear for your very life is insufficient to support an asylum application.?
How much lower can this poisonous harpy go ?

Didn't hear her, but the pre-published bits tried to make out that people were being given asylum because they feared "discrimination" only.

This week in Tory is poof bashing week, they’re everywhere you know and won’t shut up about their rights to this and rights to that.
Was Braverman on holiday in Washington DC or does her spineless boss let her swan around where the fuck she likes?

Suella seems to have reached her target audience.
'Three cheers for Suella!': ANDREW PIERCE praises Home Secretary for having 'courage to tell it as it is' and says Braverman is right to seek shake-up of refugee rules as 'perhaps only in Iran' do you need protection for being gay

Recent developments in Uganda have passed her by then? She's never heard of Ghana? Saudi Arabia? UAE? Afghanistan? The list goes on and on.
She's stupid and ignorant, and in a position to be very dangerous.

Alleged Buddhist Braverman has also been banging on about multiculturalism, which is an amorphous dog whistle concept. This is one of the most unilingual countries in the world and has a very dominant culture pervading society. If cultural separation is bugging the Tories so much, stop sending your kids to public schools.

Somebody said of WG Grace he was "too clever to cheat". Who ever wrote this bit was "too clever to lie". So it wasn't her.

This exactly why I fear even a second of if she was to become PM, her bollocks in opposition would finish them off but she could have 12 months to do real harm.

She could do some harm, but I would also put money on her breaking Truss’s record and being out before she’s even finished unpacking.
She is absolutely talentless. Absolutely. She got by as Attorney General by being perfectly willing to break any law Johnson requested. She gets by as Home Secretary by being callous and sociopathic - easy for her, what with her being a callous sociopath. But all her schemes fail because they’re either shit and unworkable or illegal, or both. As a PM, she’d screw up faster than Truss, with no bonus mourning weeks to pad it out.
There’s absolutely no talent left at the top of the Tory party. Sunak got the role as the last man standing simply by not being quite as openly corrupt as Johnson and not being hopelessly inept like Truss, and has shown himself to be nowhere near good enough - and he was by far the best option. Only an imbecile would want the top job now. Which is why she wants it. Greed with nothing to back it up at all.

What that fuck has this country become where the Home Secretary can behave in such a way. knowing full well that the Prime Minister is too gutless to sack her?

One where he doesn’t care because his goal now is simply staying in office long enough to put in a few policies that will save him and some mates some tax. They all know they are doomed - the dividing factor now is the ones who are smart enough to know they are doomed whatever (who are mostly resigning/not standing to get out before the carnage), and the ones who are so stupid/egomaniacal that they think things would miraculously change if they were in charge.

As a gay man I don’t want to risk it.
