I just cannot understand the mindset of supposedly being a progressive but also revelling in this sort of result. The two things are diametrically opposed, surely?
The thing is they don't realise just how much the Democrats will shift rightwards.

And it’s a spread that favours dems. Maybe, just maybe they can scrape along until then, win, and then neuter the fuck out of him for another 2 years.
Question is will there even be free and fair elections in two years time?

1. The left will cry to heaven that if only, if only they'd pushed harder, The People will respond - p.s. fuck the melts
2. The right will say 'we now have a super majority, beautiful, to turn this place into heaven'. For heaven, read Gilean, draft 2. p.s. thanks for the in-fighting libz, lol
3. The centre/the chatterers will say 'but we need to listen to the people, we never listen'. p.s. we'll listen, but we'll never listen to ourselves and what we are actually saying
4. The same old fucking discourse, over and over
5. The machine churns on

Well quite. But as I say, that’s the hope - they’re not quick enough, or are held back just long enough, that they can’t get all their gerrymandering in place

I'm off to get a cup of Twinning's Strong English Breakfast and a bacon sarnie. Have a nice day, as they say over there.
Yes it is a foreign country, but this result is going to cause a lot of suffering and not just in the USA.
In Ukraine, Taiwan, Palestine/Israel and Europe people are going to die because of this.
Less seriously the UK economy is going to be impacted and of course the poorest, who are already suffering, will be hurt the most.
Enjoy your breakfast and have a nice day.

Tubby Isaacs wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2024 9:37 am Inflation did it. Even though it was the best way of dealing with the pressures, few people get that. They think it was caused by Biden.
Not nurturing an heir who could beat Trump because you gambled the country at 80 that it's you, was also caused by Biden. And old Joe may have won if he stayed lucid. People who didn’t bother to vote against an old white guy in 2020 may well have turned out to vote against a woman of colour.

Also hoped to be dead before rising sea levels claimed my home. But this ignorant motherfucker running the world's largest economy will do his best to pollute the atmosphere to the max with CO2 in order to own the libs.

It's not so much the gerrymandering but the replacement purging of election officals et cetera.

A statement from Sadiq Khan:

“I know that many Londoners will be anxious about the outcome of the US Presidential election. Many will be fearful about what it will mean for democracy and for women’s rights, or how the result impacts the situation in the Middle East or the fate of Ukraine. Others will be worried about the future of NATO or tackling the climate crisis.

"London is - and will always be - for everyone. We will always be pro-women, pro-diversity, pro-climate and pro-human rights.

"London is a place where we’re proud of our diversity, proud of the contribution of all our communities and proud of our spirit of unity. These are some of the values that will continue to bind us together as Londoners."

"The lesson of today is that progress is not inevitable. But asserting our progressive values is more important than ever - re-committing to building a world where racism and hatred is rejected, the fundamental rights of women and girls are upheld, and where we continue to tackle the crisis of climate change head on."

Trump said he's going to be fighting for them every day, with every breath. That include the several hundred days he'll be out on the golf course too?

In a cost of US living reference, Nick Ferrari has just said on the telly that cornflakes are £4 in the US and ten fish fingers £2.80. This was meant to shock us, but he's clearly not been to, or visited the website of, a UK supermarket recently.

To everyone who says Trump won't last the course, both mentally or physically, its not about Trump, he is just a useful idiot figurehead. It's about his obnoxious son in law and son, its about Musk and similar, it's about those that we cant see, who will use the position for their own benefit - the rabid evangelical "christians", the anti- woman's rights, the anti- LGQT lobby, the book burners, the climate deniers, the Tucker Carlson's, who will be having a field day...............and that's what really worries me

True, but I think Ash has missed the point a bit. Khan is trying to reassure a potentially quite scared population, not give a warts and all assessment of the potential mid to long term future.

Time and place and all that. I think we can allow a day or two of reassurance before launching back into self assessment.
