It's infuriating seeing the amount of snarky takes this morning from people who notionally describe themselves as left-wing, usually along the lines of "Trump sucks, but it's always funny seeing the centrist melts crying", that sort of thing.

I just cannot understand the mindset of supposedly being a progressive but also revelling in this sort of result. The two things are diametrically opposed, surely?

The thing is they don't realise just how much the Democrats will shift rightwards.

And it’s a spread that favours dems. Maybe, just maybe they can scrape along until then, win, and then neuter the fuck out of him for another 2 years.

Question is will there even be free and fair elections in two years time?

3. The centre/the chatterers will say 'but we need to listen to the people, we never listen'. p.s. we'll listen, but we'll never listen to ourselves and what we are actually saying
4. The same old fucking discourse, over and over

In Ukraine, Taiwan, Palestine/Israel and Europe people are going to die because of this.

It's not so much the gerrymandering but the replacement purging of election officals et cetera.

Just because you don't know who they are doresn't mean you can dismiss them out if hand and they're right though there is no guarantee that this will always be the way.

True, but I think Ash has missed the point a bit. Khan is trying to reassure a potentially quite scared population, not give a warts and all assessment of the potential mid to long term future.

Time and place and all that. I think we can allow a day or two of reassurance before launching back into self assessment.
