We, along with nearly 100 progressive Independent and Green politicians across the country, are calling on the Labour government to: 1) introduce wealth taxes; 2) abolish the two-child benefit cap and stop attacking welfare recipients; 3) reverse cuts to winter fuel; 4) restore the £2 bus cap; and 5) invest in a Green New Deal.

Wealthy talking heads haven’t stopped complaining about how hard done by they are or do Jez et al think it’s a double bluff?

Isn’t this bus cap just a central government edict that local authorities pick up the tab for? Buses outside metropolitan areas are mostly for people with a lot of time on their hands and even they avoid them if possible. Unless it’s an innovative fast track system like the Cambs guided bus service. Public transport is a conversation for another day but soon, hopefully.
Agree about the two child cap, few people have three kids and those that have don’t want to be in desperate circumstances. At least give them discrete benefit top ups that the Mail won’t notice (or are they?).
No green or heating poverty initiatives?

“And we can make these claims because we don’t have to make the sums work to make them possible, or make ourselves electable or even appealing to anyone outside our core supporters - which is why we’re not part of any governing group with any real power and likely never will be” they didn’t go on to add, but probably should have.

The 2 child cap and "a proper wealth tax" are just more Nicaraguas or "to my satisfaction"s. They'll never be happy, and they've made them these big totemic things that you're not allowed to ignore.

Tubby Isaacs wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2024 5:23 pm His solution is "get round the table and talk peace".
Corbyn's stated route to peace is:
1. for Ukraine to lay down it's arms.
2. To ask Putin what he wants
3. Give it to him.
4. Disband NATO to ensure future peace in Europe.
If Trump can be believed (and that's a big 'if') he's intending to deliver Corbyn's plan.

Kicking for Jez from Jonn Ellege.

https://capx.co/nimby-watch-why-is-jere ... l-housing/

Presumably the solution to the problem of not enough social housing on the site is for Islington Council to deliver it from money it doesn't have.

I don't doubt he's sincere, but "not enough social housing" has become a Nimby tool, and he should be wary of that.
