There are many aspects to discuss.

Who are these cunts ?

What do they want? (and don’t say “our country back”)

How do we put an end to this utter bollocks ?

The police seem to be confident they can contain and curtail this stuff, and we are quite a way short of troops on the streets - thank fuck.

What is to be done about Farage, Anderson, and Tice - elected MPs, remember - deliberately encouraging this violence?

What about the broader implications for Labour’s policy programme, in particular the emphasis on economic growth ?

More likely they were linked to Tommy Robinson's rally in London last weekend. Organiser have targeted this time of year because it probably a time when police resources are fairly stretched because of officers taking leave to go on holiday with their families. There is hardly any football at the moment so right wing thugs who usually attach themselves to football are free to attach themselves to these organised riots.

The 1985/2011 riots sprang up spontaneously but they were invariably in relation to tensions that had been building in the relevant communities. These, as you say, have happened very quickly and in some strange places (Stoke and the north-east I can understand, but Liverpool?) Limited police, lighter nights, warm weather and perhaps more importantly no football. There's a reason why they've been scheduled for 3pm Saturday.

The answer to “what do they want” is depressingly simple. A fight, and specifically a fight they think they can win because odds are in their favour from numbers or size or whatever. If it wasn’t black or Asian people it’d be people of a different sexuality, or a different class, or from a different area or country, or it’d be supporters of a different football team, or a bloke down the pub who they think looked at them funny, or a neighbour they don’t like, or their cousin, or their wife or kid.

Some of them want this fight to be physical. That’s who we’re dealing with right now. Others want to be in charge of the physical fighters - directly or indirectly - to further their preference for fighting to win power.

All of them want it because deep down they have massive insecurities about their own adequacy, and this show of force is the only way they know how to address it. That’s why it doesn’t matter if they’re impossibly rich like Musk or Tice, piss poor like the jobless builder smashing up his own high street, pretend rich grifters like Tate, or even useful idiots like Braverman. None of them can cope with the constant gnawing sensation that they don’t actually matter, and none of them know how to change it outside of making themselves matter to people in some way weaker than themselves.

There's an idea amongst these squads somewhere between "They can't arrest us all" and "The police are really on our side" that somehow they'll escape the consequences of their actions because they're (far) right and proper to do what they've done. See January 6th, Belfast Fleg protests and other examples passim.

Say what you will about lefties and antifa but we've never really had the same delusion.

A lawyer on Twitter who dealt with lots of people arrested in 2011 riots said they were very surprised when told what they were facing. I'm sure there's a lot of that with this lot, with added "and the prisons are full anyway".

If the government and judiciary have to release some exisiting prisoners a bit early, or give people a few more people suspended sentences or non-custodials, then that's what they'll do. The prison population is about 85,000, with apparently 500 more emergency places already being created. The gammon squad are going down.

I had a bit on fun on twitter earlier suggesting that may be we should send some of the rioters to Rwanda because it would act as a deterrent to other people thinking of rioting. A few gammon did take the bait and came back suggesting that Rwanda was safer than Britain because the Muslims had not taken over Rwanda like they have taken over Britain.
