Bullshit Baffles Brains and Boosts Bank Balances.

Love the mention of Kaizen there - it's actually a sound concept, just horrifically misunderstood (or more accurately, mis-sold) by too many people. The idea of consistently making small and gradual improvements to one's environment is fine, and there's really no mystery to it.

I've seen a few organisations promoting internal "kaizen events". The twats.

Kaizen in principle is fine (as are other forms of TQM) you can't argue with continuous improvement and that bottom up suggestions should be welcomed. But, to work well, it needs to be organic rather than prescriptive. The problem lies in the implementation, in Japan Kaizen means that bloke on shopfloor spots an inefficiency, suggests an improvement and is listened to.
In the USA (and therefore copied in Britain) it has become prescriptive and forced, "Each employee/department must make five suggestions for improvement by the end of the month". This can lead to change for change's sake as the pressure is there to make suggestions, even if they can't actually think of any. That way effective practices get scrapped to be replaced by back of a fag packet "improvements".

Let's not ignore how "kaizen" sounds so much cleverer than "continuous process improvement".

Having been a Quality Manager in the rail industry for a good few years before leaving the industry,quality management is seen as red tape until fertiliser and extraction equipment collide and then everyone is looking at you to sort it out, understand how it happened, stop it happening again, wondering why you didn’t spot it in the first place. Very often you had during the course of an audit and had raised a non conformity which the owner was taking an age to sort out.

I worked for one of the Korean chaebols for many years and had the pleasure of frequent visits to the company's Kaizen school in Korea. Somewhere is a drawer are bits of paper in Korean and English proclaiming me a Kaizen Master and a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Green belt provides enough detail to tell the difference.

Several polls today all over 20pts+

Ipsos saw high numbers for the Greens and low numbers for Remain, Labour’s vote had fallen but was still 20pts+ and will probably be corrected by the Green numbers next time.

The most interesting point was the optimism in the economy and yet it didn’t reflect at all in the figures.

If that’s what they are relying on then they are done.

I think it’s going to take a very, very long time for people to forget Truss doubled their mortgage payments overnight specifically to give rich people more money. Not least of which because there will be people coming out of 5-year fixed term deals for a good while yet who will be facing big hikes and far, far fewer options.
