Oh. This old bollocks. Again.

For many months the evidence has shown that the most likely places to catch Covid are care homes, hospitals and private homes, but opinion polls show a widespread fantasy that the real dangers are from international travel, pubs, and restaurants.
For many months international travel was banned*, and pubs and restaurants were closed.

Thick cunt? Mendacious cunt? Thick mendacious cunt?

One thing is certain - Graham Brady is some sort of cunt.

*Where does he think the Indian Delta variant originated? The Beaumont Park Care Home in Biggleswade?

When we say that Tories are lying we may be doing them a disservice. They are probably too stupid to understand even simple things and imbued with the private-education certainty that whatever bollocks they believe must be correct, because it's them believing it.

I can't imagine being that stupid.

I have, after many months of observing and thinking, come to the now-unshakeable belief that the biggest threat to public health this country has faced in modern times comes not from Covid 19 and its' variants, but from the ineptitude, stupidity, and self-serving mendaciousness of our elected government.

This country is in a very bad place.

Thank you @kreuzberger , but no. If that is what I had meant to say, then that is what I would have said.

England* is not a bad place. Had England a government with half an ounce of intelligence, a smidgen of competence, an acquaintance with duty, and on nodding terms with ethics and decency, then we would not be in such a bad place.

*Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all lucky enough to have governing bodies who can, and do, make decisions which run counter to those made by the cesspit that is the ruling party in Westminster.

It's not even an adult populace - the people aren't all that bad. The self-servatives gained power by garnering around one third of the votes cast. Ergo what is needed is not so much a change in the people as a change in the way governments are elected. FPTP is fine in a two-party system, but fails badly when more parties are added to the mix.

I think GBeebies have demonstrated quite admirably that there is no actual majority wanting right-wing bollocks in this country.

Despite being characterised as a 'fœtid shithole' by some (who know nothing about it), the part of England I know is pretty good - for example my grandkids have been out today to the RHS at Wisley, and to a water park in North London. They all have ample open spaces to wander in, and safe streets to go to and from school or to see their friends.
We have a local theatre, several good restaurants and a very pretty little villagy bit round the ponds. A wilderness area and several formal parks. Good transport and decent shops. OK schools.

What we also have is a small percentage of gobby twats* who want to break things for the fun of it. If we can get a coalition of the positive together we can put them back in the box Brexit opened.

*I'm including Momentum in that.

No offence was meant and, given the widespread use of FTFY to express irony and jaundice, I'm surprised some was taken, especially in the context of the Covid thread. Still, we are where we are.

And that place is a glorious summer's Sunday where a government and its two most senior figures contrive an exception to the law of the land because, well, it's a bit inconvenient. It's a place which has clocked up over a quarter of a million new cases of a deadly disease in the last week, and which tomorrow gives itself over the reckless mass production of vaccine-resistant variants which threaten to undo all the life-saving advances of the last twelve months. (That's before we even begin with the slurry of sleaze and corruption which pollutes the national conversation.)

The atmosphere has become so poisoned and the mood so horrifyingly toxic that people of good character are retweeting the perfect sense being made by Isabel Oakeshott.

Still, they haven't destroyed everything just yet and, let's be honest, at least the supermarket shelves are a veritable cornucopia, so I suppose it is easy to overlook the steady drift towards the status of failed-state and that of an international pariah.

Kreuzie, I didn't think there was any malice intended, it just struck me as unnecessary. FTFY don't always work as intended.

Anyway, the local chip shop has just posted a message on FB to say from tomorrow their rules are not changing. No more than two customers in the shop at any time, face masks must be worn, and people will still have to wait outside for their food. Add this to the notices in the convenience store, the newsagent, the post office, the hardware shop and the charity shop, it would appear that not everydbody is clamouring for FWEEEDUM!!!1!

Have the Tories been lying to us again?
