I've not been paying much attention to the politicians.

A couple of forums I occasionally visit have shown a big uptick in enthusiastic discussion of a "second civil war".
Now admittedly, it's high single figures of posters maintaining these conversations.
But you know what the three percenters say.

Example - if you can be bothered reading the drooling of morons.

If it came to that, the red states wouldn't stand a chance. And bear in mind that the military aren't necessarily as beholden to the orange cunt as his followers would like to think.

Based on the last few weeks alone, I quite genuinely think Trump may be dead before the year is out. He seems to be literally disintegrating in front of us - the weird hand wounds, the mental decline, the increasingly awkward gait, the random bandage on his neck, and his increasing use of fake tan (even for him) suggesting there’s a pretty sickly pallor underneath.

It's not the disappointment, it's the hope I can't stand.

They seem to imagine that everybody except registered Democrats share their crazy ideas.
That's too long spent in echo chambers.

One of the most vociferous voices on the link I posted is a self described "prison educator".

More on that here.

Her what?! Don’t take it from me. Here’s what he said: “She gets like nine people, and the press never reports the crowd. By the way, they never report the crowd on January 6. You know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley … you know they … do you know they destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, deleted and destroyed all of it? All of it! Because of lots of things. Like Nikki Haley is in charge of security. We offered her 10,000 people. Soldiers, National Guard—whatever they want. They turned it down. They don’t wanna talk about that. These are very dishonest people.”

Over the decades, we've been led to believe that the CIA are a shadowy, all powerful organisation that effectively runs the US. The fact that Trump is alive, for me, makes a mockery of that, and of any conspiracy the CIA have ever been involved in. They're a bunch of pussy cats with great PR. Is he not a threat to National Security? If they were as powerful as we're led to believe, could the CIA not have kicked both the Republicans and Democrats up the arse and got them to spend the last 4 years priming decent candidates? The Democrats in particular are fucking lazy bastards, you could see this coming with Biden's age, yet chose not to prime anyone to run. You reap what you sow, which is nothing in their case.

Is it just me remembering when Biden was elected there being much talk of him being a one term president and training up a decent successor (Harris was mentioned IIRC), precisely to avoid this situation? If so, what the hell happened to make them abandon that plan?

Well, we've got 10 months, Democrats. Pull your fucking fingers out.

What happened seems to be that Biden has done a lot right (a lot of write-ups - arguably rightly - credit him as the most progressive post-WW2 president who has achieved a remarkable amount, and all the moreso coming out of Covid/Trump) but isn’t getting much credit, but at the same time Harris has been pretty anonymous - in part bogged down because of the thin majority in one house one way and the thin majority the other way in the other. Meaning if Harris stood they’d have a candidate that hadn’t made much impact on the one hand, and a choice that seemed to give credit to the ‘Biden hasn’t done much’ narrative that’s harmful to Democrats overall on the other.

It’s an awkward set of circumstances, but it places Biden as still a solid choice.

Biden has indeed done a lot of stuff but barely gets any credit especially from so called progressives.

As Biden would put it that's malarkey.
