Donald Trump Walks Onstage to a Brooks & Dunn Lyric About ‘Going to Prison’

https://tasteofcountry.com/donald-trump ... to-prison/
Former President Donald Trump walked onstage to a topical -- and eyebrow-raising -- line in a Brooks & Dunn song during a gathering of GOP 2024 presidential hopefuls in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday night (July 28.)

Like all the candidates who spoke at the rally, Trump walked out onstage to "Only in America," the country duo's sweeping 2001 ode to possibility and the American dream. The song's lyrics marvel at the infinite life paths available for citizens of the U.S.A., but they took on new meaning when Trump strode across the station just as the recording played the lyric, "One could end up goin' to prison / One just might be president."

That those exact lyrics were playing as Trump took the stage was apparently coincidental -- "Only in America" is a popular choice of walk-out music for campaign events of all description, on both sides of the political aisle -- but it was certainly a little on the nose, considering Trump's current legal woes.

Just watched Krishnan Guru-Murthy on C4 news interviewing some belligerent Barbie-clone Trump supporter. Absolutely horrific. Didn’t catch her name. Trump has done nothing wrong , absolutely nothing. The Democrats, on the other hand, are in league with Satan, corrupt as hell, and are trying to stitch Trump up (I paraphrase, but not that much).

Fucking terrifying.

Why do so many Americans insist on giving their offspring surnames as first names?
Not sure, but I have certainly seen family names used as middle names in this country - I was at school with someone whose middle name was Beresford.

Good article on the Democrats chances of winning this year's governor's race in Mississippi

https://www.vox.com/politics/23807436/m ... s-governor
JACKSON, Mississippi — Mississippi isn’t that Republican.

Although Republicans have a monopoly on statewide office and supermajorities in the state legislature, Mississippi is a lighter shade of red than outsiders might think. It has been consistently easy in recent years for Democrats to get up to 45 percent of the vote here, but nearly impossible for them to top 50.

“In Mississippi, if you’re winning by double digits, that’s a real blowout,” said Austin Barbour, a longtime GOP strategist in the state.

Of course, close doesn’t count for much in electoral politics. But that history of close top-of-the-ticket races in the Magnolia State — combined with a compelling Democratic candidate and a not terribly popular Republican incumbent — means that this year’s gubernatorial election has become one of Democrats’ top targets in an odd year.

In 2023, their hope is that Brandon Presley, a longtime elected public service commissioner from the northeast corner of the state with a fondness for Diet Mountain Dew and folksy aphorisms, can somehow break their streak and win the state’s odd-year gubernatorial election. To do so, Presley would have to beat incumbent Gov. Tate Reeves, who has a formidable war chest and a well-oiled political machine, but who is also tarnished by scandal and has one of the lowest approval ratings of any governor in the country.

I've only recently seen analysis of how close Jan 6th came to overturning the election.

For a non-American, much of the coverage has been fragmented, poorly explained and focused on the flags and cosplayers.
Few of us know the minutiae of the Constitution.
We fail to appreciate that behind the televised shitshow lay a pretty detailed plan.
Probably too detailed, which is why it unravelled.

Some of the stuff is well known, other stuff has only recently been explained in detail.
So here's what I have to date:
1. Big crowds prevent Biden's confirmation by "taking out" (make of that what you will) Mike Pence - He's important, I'm not sure why, but I don't know the constitution.
2. Fake electors, impersonators designed to overturn the electoral college.
3. Representatives ready to reinstate Trump in the "emergency" of Pence being removed.
4. Trump now has authority to mobilise the armed forces to disperse any counter-coup protests.

That seems to be the big picture, before you factor in attacks on the integrity of the count, and Trump holding back any federal response to the storming of the capitol.

It speaks of a deep organised plot, rather than the standard narrative of old orange face flapping his chops and a bunch of yahoo militianos going loco.

From where have you gathered this analysis, Bones?
I've been watching a few democrat leaning YouTubers.
In the run in to the court appearance they've pulled their threads together, and explained the more esoteric details in an easier to follow manner.

The bit about the armed forces is quite subtle, and had flown over my head until I saw it explaiend.

Once they've accomplished their first three goals:
1. "Hung" or otherwise remove Mike Pence.
2. Something about fake electors.
3. Plants within the house propose an emergency measure to maintain Trump in power because "Emergency".

At that point Trump's the constitutional C in C again.
He would have the power to use martial law measures against any protestors objecting to the power grab.

It's alleged the MAGA crowd referred to these emergency powers as the "Kent State Option".
In usual tasteful terms this references the national guard shooting of protestors known as the 1970 Kent State Massacre.

If you sit back and think quietly about it... it's really rather terrifying, isn't it?

More to the point; could Trump really have planned this or are there other "bad actors" at play here? And yet here we are with the very real prospect he could be POTUS again.
Trump ain't the branez of the outfit.
I'd imagine that whatever passes for Tufton Street supplied the planning capacity.

There's a lot of fingers pointing at Guiliani and a gaggle of other Repub leaning lawyers.
There's something in the charges about "six others".
