Think this is likely lost. These are incredible numbers for Johnson.

Covid is obviously a big plus for the government, and doubtless props up their rating on the NHS. But more generally, I think Johnson's got the hang of how to appeal to voters in places like this. They've asked themselves what these voters didn't like about them before- being tight arsed with public spending. Address that by saying you'll spaff on populist stuff in places where people like them live. They gave Jez and opening on cuts in 2017 and they're not making that mistake again. As we've seen in Chesham and Amersham, that doesn't work anywhere, but for now losing some voters to the Lib Dems in the South is a good trade.

I think you they're in the box seat till things go to shit.

How in the name of God can anyone say they trust Johnson on Covid after the shitshow of the past 18 months? The only explanation I can think of that is that for some reason he is so idolised by thick bigoted wankers that everything he does is seen as wonderful.

As said, by positioning himself as the guy taking on the establishment, any failures are understandable losses against a tough enemy, and any wins are so much sweeter.

Also, on Covid, who to compare him to? Foreigners don't count, and any setbacks are someone else's problem. After all, I am exercising my constitutional rights, but he is an irresponsible wanker.

Rally around the flag.

The UK isn't so different to most of the G7 (Italy, France, US, Spain) and better than some of the rest of Europe (Czech Republic, Belgium, Hungary, Poland etc). If you're at least average, and appearing on tv whenever you want sounding serious, you'll get the benefit of the doubt from lots of people. Also, they've generally been pretty cautious for the last 6 months. I don't know if the Delta Variant fuck up will cut through.

On the plus side, there seem to be some undecideds in the constituency still, and not much Lab-Con switching (which happened in Hartlepool).

And you know, I can see why people can criticize the communication of policies. And a random vox pops guy might say he doesn't get what Labour policies are.

But all these Twitter Keith people are interested in politics. It's not in good faith from them. Just one policy- Education catch up spending, which is about as progressive as you can get- has Labour spending £13bn more than the Tory plan.

But hey. The real issues are the Forde Inquiry and Kashmir (as if Modi cares what the UK opposition leader says).

Well done, somebody.
On Sunday, the Labour Muslim Network wrote to Starmer and others to complain about an anonymous briefing to the Mail on Sunday from a “senior Labour official” claiming that the reason the party was losing votes was a “backlash” from Muslim voters over “what Keir has been doing on antisemitism”.
Much as its galling to see anybody vote for Galloway, I can see why this might turn a few away from Labour.

“He’s never spoken up about Batley or immigration or about Muslims. Never. Now he’s speaking up because George [Galloway] is here,” said Karolia. “So why should I support a Labour leader that has never spoken for me or my community until he wants the vote?”
Galloway, the divisive politician who delivered a shock defeat to Labour in nearby Bradford West in 2012, has set up a campaign base in a caravan festooned with Palestinian flags a few streets away. He has now expanded into an empty travel agents, one of three campaign headquarters in the Batley and Spen constituency covered with banners of Galloway in trademark fedora hat and posters in Labour red.

Karolia’s frustrations are nothing to do with Leadbeater, the sister of Jo Cox MP, who was murdered in her constituency, but Starmer, who he perceives as failing to challenge Islamophobia. But if not for Galloway – who wants to “bring about a convulsion in the Labour party that saw [Starmer] thrown out” – he would have voted Conservative.

This has had a fair bit of stick. Apparently this means "Muslims", rather than what she says- people who vote for Galloway.

The thing with Galloway is that lots of people won't know what he is. Labour has to tell them. And while they're doing that, the Tories are getting on with the job of picking up Con-Lab waverers.
