Looks like this “thing” against banks is the next in a continuing line of desperate tactics. Reading between the lines, the ex-vicar got drummed out of the C of E for being not so Christian towards all members of his flock. He claims to have written “a polite email”, but doesn’t provide it in support of his situation. I’d laugh my bollox off if a bank turned round and produced the CCTV of him or Fox abusing staff

I think the peak of the Insight team was before Neil, wasn't it? They were jokingly referred to as the Hindsight team under his leadership, because they were basically latching on to other people's scoops.

Yeah, but he also bought the fake Goebbels diaries and had David Irving verify them.
He also serialised a book about how HIV wasn't the cause of AIDS, took a position that AIDS treatments were harmful, and wrote himself that AIDS couldn't spread to heterosexuals.

Indeed. I recall him being on a Sunday morning discussion show based around a different Sunday newspaper each week, and he defended this view by referring to "the AIDS establishment", among whom he included Peter Tatchell who was calling him out on this pernicious rubbish.

Astonishingly, there are people still going with this AIDS denialism stuff. One of whom, Joan Shenton, was a well respected consumer journalist in the seventies-eighties.

A bear pit that strayed somewhat from its theological remit to discuss the big moral questions. I’ve seen Sally Phillips occupy that slot presently, comes across as a proper Christian.

Re Nargle claiming he’s being “forced out” of GB, more like he’s finally realised it’s a fucking mess, mainly down to the likes of him, so he’s actually upping sticks and fucking off, to Florida

I think with Brillo, the shock comes from him taking his job at the BBC seriously. In interviews, had he given those on the left the Gestapo treatment and had cosy afternoon tea with those on the right, none of us would have been surprised by his conspiralunacy. Because he treated everyone across the political spectrum equally it gave the impression of being a reasonable man, and papered over a lot of cracks in his personality.

Strip it right back to its essence, though, and what we have here is an archetypal Newspaper Sadface story. Our plucky hero has always done this, and now The Man has said he can't any more. Naturally, our hero gets to entirely control the story, because The Man, by custom, policy or statute, is bound to respect legal processes and client confidentiality.

You can't note that without noting the other truths universal to Sadface Stories. Our heroes are rarely, if ever, completely honest about he nature of their grievance, nor how suddenly and unexpectedly the retribution of The Man rained upon them. They are rarely, if ever, genuinely put upon by the events, and reach their impasse through arrogance, apathy, hubris or belligerence in various admixture. Most likely, they could have avoided their fate quite simply.

The final truth is the most important, though. Once you're sadfacing, it is a tacit admission that no legitimate channel exists to get out of the fix our hero is in, either because they know they're bang to rights, or because they've already tried and failed.
