The committee has also commented on Johnson's resignation as an MP and his criticism of the committee members.

The report says that as well as criticising the fairness of the committee's procedures, Johnson "attacks in very strong, indeed vitriolic, terms the integrity, honesty and honour of its members."

"This attack on a committee carrying out its remit from the democratically elected House itself amounts to an attack on our democratic institutions."

The report says that Johnson's conduct in this regard also amounts to a "serious further contempt".
What's that old saying about holes and digging?

90 day suspension, and recommendation he be banned from the Houses of Parliament for life. Still, he's a titan among pygmies or something, and not just a fat lying shit.

He's made a statement, further attacking the committee. The usual suspects are hitting Twitter, posting identikit messages. Big Dog's getting his bollocks chewed off and the sun's shining over Morecambe bay and it's my birthday and this is glorious.

We came to the view that some of Mr Johnson’s denials and explanations were so disingenuous that they were by their very nature deliberate attempts to mislead the Committee and the House, while others demonstrated deliberation because of the frequency with which he closed his mind to the truth... For these reasons we conclude that Mr Johnson’s conduct was deliberate and that he has committed a serious contempt of the House.

While the committee report is about his behaviour in Parliament, this note gets to the heart of it - Johnson and team simply did not believe they should have to follow the rules, knew this was wrong and actively tried to avoid being caught, and in terms of having any sort of empathy for the rest of us who did adhere to guidance did not care in the slightest.

There also seems to be, to evoke Donald Sutherland's character's speech in the film "JFK", something going on at the top:
There's been no vote, nothing on paper, it's as old as the crucifixion. A military firing squad; five bullets, one blank, no one's guilty.
By which I mean the buck-passing. Who's in charge here? Whose responsibility is it that the rules are followed? Johnson's the PM, but Case is the chief of staff. But what about the cabinet office as opposed to Downing Street staff? And isn't security a matter for Special Branch? Everyone has their crucial out - "I didn't know it was down to me".

Just like Brexit ("all communications were decided by committee, and all I did was repeat what I'd been supplied in good faith, and no, I can't recall who was in those committee meetings and besides, Chatham House rules so no notes"), absolute plausible deniability (or so they think) at the key point.

The thing is. the privileges committee has only thrown a spotlight on the lies to parliament that he was caught bang to rights perpetrating. That he is an inveterate and disgusting liar who has actually lied to parliament on many, many occasions, mostly on minor points or statistics, but nevertheless still lies, and never corrected. Dawn Butler was on O'Brien's show earlier, remembering when she was chucked out of the Commons for explicitly naming Johnson as a liar. I'm almost prepared to forgive Dawn for her other, Corbyn-related sins, for this. Almost.

We now have the unpalatable spectacle of his loyalists in the press trying to explain.

They've dressed up in their "honest broker" suits.
Begging us to see both sides.
Parroting his words with which he condemned himself.

This needs to happen. It would both be perfectly reasonable and also leave him absolutely incandescent.

The punishment should fit the criminal, not the crime. And for a vain, hubristic bullshitter this would be the equivalent of 10 years hard Labour.

And there could be more.

Committee says it will publish further report dealing with those who have attacked its credibility over Johnson inquiry
Jacob Rees-Mogg, the former business secretary, is one of the most prominent MPs who has denigrated the committee in this way.

Although his language today has been more moderate, in the past he has described the committee as a kangaroo court, and on the day it took evidence from Johnson he posted a joke tweet making the same point.
#46129
And yet more still - despite having already shot both his feet clean off with both his confidence-breaking rant and revealing use of prejudicial language in the same, in his petty eagerness to fuck over Sunak it seems Johnson has instead trod on yet another petard freshly laid by one A. Johnson mere days earlier.

He cannot help himself, but because he can’t my god he can certainly hinder himself.

Russ Jones (the Decade in Tory etc) lays it out:

Let's just suppose Boris Johnson really is innocent. I know, but bear with me.

This would mean the following must be involved in a conspiracy of agreed lies and faked evidence, without leaving any trace whatsoever of their collusion, and most of them for no reason whatsoever ...
- Johnson's own staff
- Johnson's own press secretary
- Every civil servant in Downing St
- The Metropolitan Police
- The reviewing panel for police findings, led by Sajid Javid's brother
- The Queen, who accepted Johnson's apologies for parties

I'm not finished...
- The 173 Tory ministers, officials, special advisors and trade envoys who resigned in 24 hours cos of his lies
- A parliamentary committee with majority Tory members
- BBC
- ITN
- Sky
- Reuters
- The New York Times
- The Press Association

Hold on, there's more ...
- Most members of parliament, on either side of the chamber
- Anybody who watched Johnson deliver his Covid lockdown announcements on TV
- Anybody who watched Johnson's denials in parliament on TV
- Johnson's own legal team

Nope, the conspiracy isn't finished yet ...
- Microsoft, who made email software with "fake" evidence of parties
- Apple, who made the phones with "fake" photos of him at parties
- The camera team in the HoC, who must have faked that footage
- And receipts at the off licence where suitcases were filled with booze
We all know how hard it is to arrange drinks between 4 adult mates.

Imagine the challenge in roping millions of strangers into this top secret conspiracy, which doesn't even benefit most of them.

Isn't it more likely Johnson's just a liar who finally got busted?
