This leads me to believe that for the last 40 years people haven't been voting for Jeremy Corbyn, but for the Labour candidate. Who just happened to be Jeremy Corbyn.

Don’t know what Keir’s plans are but it’ll be best left to district councils to decide for themselves if liberalisation is appropriate. Cambridgeshire for instance has vastly differing economic geography, Cambridge has made great strides to accommodate expansion but there’s little appetite for urban sprawl. Neighbouring Isle of Ely meanwhile now has a population of commuters and farmers. As a consequence they’re extremely accommodating and creative with rural planning applications if you have a business idea (a hobby business will tick a box). Lib Dem councillors are especially keen on rural constituents who aren’t just tricky farmers.

He's discovered land banking, which even if we accept should be zero (which it shouldn't, because firms need to be confident of a steady stream of places to build on) you'd still be short of what was needed. Here's the nonsense Howell and McDonnell are defending. Look at the size of that green belt around Oxford. Funnily enough, the average property price is £585,000.

If we built more on that, we could maybe not use all that land owned by developers for housing. How about we stick some parks on there instead? Wouldn't the local kids be better served by that than being told to walk a miles to the green bit?

There used to be requirements for shops, schools, clinics, and recreational spaces in New builds. Plus a thing called Percentage for Art, to encourage a little character on otherwise soulless estates.

Not that long ago, either. All went post-2010. To be fair, they regularly were ignored, because just like affordable housing penalties, developers could easily make the money back by stuffing in another McMansion or two. But the intent was there.
