Braverman's Department takes huge strides towards the Nineteenth century. The latest bright idea takes the form of prison hulks.

The Home Office is planning to use disused cruise ships to house asylum seekers amid growing anger from Conservative backbenchers over the use of hotels in their constituencies.

Ministers are looking at possible vessels including a former cruise ship from Indonesia, which would be moored in south-west England, the Guardian understands...

https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... uise-ships
During the Conservative leadership campaign last summer, Rishi Sunak proposed putting illegal immigrants on cruise ships moored around the country but was warned it could be illegal under the Human Rights Act and the European convention on human rights.

Downing Street confirmed he had dropped the idea to use the ships to house asylum seekers, which critics said would amount to arbitrary detention, once he became prime minister last October.

Sources suggested, however, that the cruise ships could be registered as hotels rather than detention centres to get around possible legal challenges.
Transportation to Rwanda. Prison hulks. No-fault evictions. Absolute poverty (as against relative poverty. Erosion of basic human rights all round. They're turning the country back to the one Dickens was protesting about.

There's no racism or xenophobic in the Home Office - they just want to keep the wogs out.

Read it and weep

Home Office accused of building delays into plan to speed asylum claims

Questionnaire system at heart of effort to reduce backlog is ‘fundamentally flawed’, say immigration lawyers

https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... lum-claims
One problem has been that immigration lawyers who had already obtained witness statements from their asylum-seeker clients – explaining why they had to flee – have appended these documents to the questionnaire response as a means of answering some of the questions...

...In the email exchange, the Home Office official states: “I understand that you have submitted the witness statement previously that may provide information about your client’s asylum claim. However, as the witness statement pre-dates the asylum claim questionnaire, we are unable to accept it as answers to the asylum claim questionnaire.

“We ask that you address the questions within the asylum claim questionnaire so your client has the best opportunity to address all aspects of their claim so that their claim could be expedited and that there will be no need for a substantive interview.”

The immigration lawyer protesting about this said: “We have been asked to provide a significant amount of information in relation to our client’s protection needs in a chronological fashion. We have already completed this task and sent it to the Home Office. We would be duplicating work if we completed another witness statement for this purpose and the form is small and would not fit in the relevant information.”...
Every time I think I've reached peak hate, something comes out which makes me hate the Tories even more.

And the insidious manner in which they have subverted the Civil Service (and its impartiality) by recruiting and promoting those who support it politically rather than those who simply want to run an efficient government along the lines of traditional British values of honesty, fairness and legality.

I read government press releases for many years and they were anodyne, professional and contained the relevant accurate information they wanted to put out there. By the time Johnson arrived they were being written by political hacks too talentless to even disguise 250 words of bullshit masquerading as a civil service press release.

The real law, the law of the land. Judged in the court of common sense, by the jury of public opinion. None of this legalese nonsense, proper law like they had in the old days. Dixon of Dock Green. Bring back Matron. Australian style points based immigration system. No pooftahs. You know, proper law before the clever bastards got their hands on it.

Not sure I’ve ever seen quite so much projection in one go - she’s desperately hoping that her awful behaviour appeals to a group that she doesn’t even know exists because they don’t openly support her, hopes they think of themselves as law abiding so she can infer that what she does must therefore be lawful as otherwise they wouldn’t support it, and hopes she’s annoying people that she in turn hopes makes that other group like her.

An entire portfolio based on hope you’re nasty enough to make dreadful people like you, with absolutely no data that they do (and given poll numbers, actually a fair bit that they don’t or at best remain indifferent).

Braverman is a wilfully ignorant idiot, but Sunak isn’t. You have to wonder how long he’ll let her thrash about with her culture war before cutting it off and trying something else to shift poll numbers.

It's the Littlejohn fan club - "I've nothing against X but...". Otherwise law abiding types, who can't understand why the police aren't out catching real villains instead of picking on defenceless motorists who have only had a few ales, officer, and what was that kid doing running in the road anyway?

He’s hoping the Blue wall will accept him as the competent nice guy in a suit and dopey Tory voters probably will, despite not doing much culture war bollocks in Amersham. Doesn’t take a lot to persuade even disgruntled Tories to vote Tory again.

“Greedy daughter of immigrants who already earns £££ in cushy civil service job exploits loophole to get bills paid - out of YOUR taxes”

…is strangely not a headline written about this person, even though you’d think the Mail etc would be all over it. Funny, that.

No words...

Nepalese security guards who protected British embassy staff in Afghanistan, and who were airlifted to safety in the UK in August 2021, are now in detention and facing deportation.

Thirteen security guards – 11 Nepalese and two Indian – were brought to the UK as Kabul fell to the Taliban. Some were granted indefinite leave to remain while others have been awaiting decisions.

One of the guards, Bam Bahadur Gurung, a 37-year-old Nepalese national, worked in Afghanistan for more than a decade, first as a security guard and later as a supervising guard at the British and Canadian embassies in Kabul.

He received confirmation on 17 February 2022 that his application for permanent immigration status in the UK had progressed and biometrics were being arranged so his application could be progressed as quickly as possible. However, in June 2022 he received an email from the government’s Afghan Resettlement Team saying that his evacuation had been “a gesture of goodwill” and that he was not deemed eligible to stay in the UK as part of the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme.

On 27 March 2023 Gurung was among the group rounded up by the Home Office, then arrested and detained.

“I was getting ready for work when I was arrested. I am in a state of shock and am very sad about what the UK has done to me,” he said, speaking from Brook House immigration removal centre near Gatwick airport. “I helped to protect British embassy staff in Kabul for many years. None of us have criminal records. My dream is to remain in the UK and serve in the British army.”

He said that some of the group had been told by Home Office officials they would be forcibly removed from the UK on 11 April....

What did I say about doing this shit in our name?

That's right. What we've done to him.

Braverman and her cronies have put themselves beyond human consideration. They need exterminating. Right now.
