It’s hard to know, because do the polls remain and does that give Labour a sizeable majority and if so who remains.

I don’t expect Johnson to return, leader of the opposition, the guy is rattled that Starmer has a knighthood.

Does amaze me that the political commentators who have faced up to this think some sort of sanity will break out if they are beaten badly, this lot are more likely to end up like a mini version of the Republicans.

I wonder if Ricky S is making a calculation - if he goes for a GE now he will lose, badly, but he can spend two terms rebuilding and come back. If he waits he will lose so badly that his party won't survive.

Perhaps. If he goes and loses big time now, the calculation must be that he won’t have to resign, principally because there’s nobody lining up to take his job, though they are so fucked a Johnson or even a Truss comeback can’t be completely ruled out.

Every scenario sucks for the Tories. An even worse scenario is a Labour government floating PR while having a thumping majority. Where the Tories are underrepresented in parliament. Even Tory voters wouldn’t want FPTP anymore.
Strategists on both sides believe the polls will tighten as the election approaches. ‘On previous precedents it ought to narrow by at least nine points,’ says one Labour figure. This thought is echoed in Tory high command. But a Labour lead cut from 20 to ten points would still mean easy victory. ‘The scale of the defeat is critical,’ says a senior Tory politician who has sat in the Commons since the early 2000s. ‘A small defeat means we can rebuild and get back in quickly.’
MPs are discussing what would be the least worst option in the event of a Tory loss. ‘I would rather a Labour majority than a hung parliament,’ says a former cabinet minister. The concern is that if the Liberal Democrats were enlisted into a coalition, they’d demand a change to the voting system to bring in proportional representation – and keep the Tories out of power for decades. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the ... -election/

I repeat:

Animals behave the way they do because that's how they have evolved to behave. Humans behave the way they do because that's how they choose to behave.

Rishi Sunak is proposing to stop asylum seekers who cross the Channel in small boats from appealing against their deportation, according to reports.

The Home Office, led by Suella Braverman, had put forward two options for the prime minister’s consideration as he attempts to automatically prevent those arriving in Britain from claiming asylum, the Times reported.

It is understood one proposal would be to withdraw people’s right to appeal against their automatic exclusion from the asylum system. Under the other scheme, people arriving on small boats would only be allowed to lodge an appeal after they had already been deported...

It keeps the gammon moist and it's pretty much all they've got. If woke doesn't get 'em raging, the mention of dinghies certainly will.
There’s no exit figures accompanying these government stats and if by some miracle as many as 99% return, do the maths. And these will be real illegal migrants not imagined one. What is interesting is that I haven’t generated any fear, anger or even interest among those who obsess about immigration. They can only respond on an emotional level when Murdoch and Farage tell them to.

They can have a pretend war with Europe (and the world over breaking international laws).

It was an odd pledge to add to the five I felt, I assume they felt it was one they could pretend to deliver, bar the inflation one it was specific.

And they are all responsible for it by the way, Sunak “the moderate” doesn’t get a free pass, after all this is him looking tough. Odd has its always shitting on the most disadvantaged in society.
