Today in Parliament

"Jonathan Gullis (Con) says he used to be a representative for the NAS/UWT teaching union. But he criticises the National Education Union, claiming it is led by “Commie [Kevin] Courtney” and “Bolshie [Mary] Bousted”

Can I take any more mature debate from our elected representatives

To put that in context, every school has a union rep for each union - has to.
It's not always a popular job. So often it goes to the political equivalent of the fat spotty kid who is always last to be picked at football. It doesn't denote any great socialist tendencies.

(Disclaimer: I was a rep for ATL and I was brillint.)

A clear message to all Tory MPs

The Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen has been suspended from the House of Commons for five days after being found to have breached rules on paid lobbying and declaring interests.

The MP for north-west Leicestershire was found to have repeatedly broken the MPs’ code of conduct by a cross-party committee, which endorsed findings from Kathryn Stone, the parliamentary commissioner for standards...

Break the rules and we'll put you on the naughty step for a few minutes.

That should make 'em think twice, eh?

Have we got to the "well, say what you like, but he stands up for his beliefs and that's bloody brave and admirable" stage yet?

We’re at the ‘WEF are pulling the strings and suppressing free speech’ stage. How you debate antivax fruitcakes, I don’t know.

At some point soon we’ll be getting “Well, say what you like”
“…and?”
“And what? That’s it.”
“So they can just do and say what they want and you won’t ever think that’s an issue”
“well, yes. You see the key factor here is, it doesn’t affect me so I don’t care”

Bridgen's defence will be something along these lines:

I think we've got to a stage where what people say or do is not, as far as their supporters are concerned, as important as who they are. One person's unhinged outburst is just another person speaking their mind. I thought tribalism was bad enough in 2015 or so, with its insistence that you couldn't simply disagree with someone but had to hate them and everything they stood for. And for all the bollocks about free and critical thinking, it's just latching onto big brother/sister figures and accepting whatever shit they come out with, because you're in their club.

Fuck, I fucking hate people.
