If Representative Brain Fart is right, that would explain a lot about the US Army. The first thing they learn in basic training is the correct respectful way to treat a bit of coloured cloth?

No wonder the British army can run rings 'round 'em. They're taught useful stuff.

Almost 8,000 shootings in US cities in recent years were attributable to unseasonably warm temperatures, according to a new study. The researchers said the work suggested the climate crisis could be contributing to increased gun violence by pushing temperatures beyond the normal ranges.

Shootings were already known to peak in summer, when people are outside more and when heat can increase aggression. But the new research took account of the season and showed that above average temperatures at any time of year increased the risk of shootings...

Whereas, in more civilised parts of the world, summer temperatures have also rocketed while the number of shootings has remained broadly the same. I wonder why this should be?

But yeah, it's the weather that's to blame.

Somewhat late to this, but who pronounces Sheila as “She-li-aah”??!?

Pretty amazing story concerning one newly elected Republican congressman

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/202 ... -list.html
By now the name George Santos should ring a bell: A bombshell investigation by the New York Times revealed almost all of his claims about his personal and professional life made while campaigning (successfully!) for a House seat in New York turned out to be flat out false or seriously shady. These revelations didn’t come out until after Santos won his Long Island district with a pretty decisive eight-point victory that helped Republicans clinch a narrow majority in the House.

The breadth of 34-year-old Santos’ lies are pretty impressive, from claiming he worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup to having Jewish grandparents that fled Europe during World War II. The entire scandal has rocked members of the media, who have been left scratching their heads on how these pretty significant lies went unearthed throughout Santos’ campaign. But just as importantly are the consequences of the lies themselves—as an incoming Congressman, they could create ethics violations and even legal challenges once he takes office in January.

Maybe a compromise agreement, in which we drop Hoyle off half way.

If he’s serious…..pass the popcorn!

From the Guardian

Florida’s Republican representative Matt Gaetz has nominated Donald Trump for House speaker.

“Donald John Trump,” Gaetz said, standing up and smiling, as his name was called for the vote. Next to him, Georgia’s Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene smiled as murmurs of surprise spread across the House.

Gaetz’s vote for Donald Trump – a day before the January 6 riots anniversary – comes not only as an embarrassing blow to Kevin McCarthy who is trying to unite Republican representatives into casting a vote towards him but also towards the GOP in assuming control of the House as Republican infighting continues.
