For Raab and so on, opera, classical concerts, flower shows, tennis club memberships and a whole load of other things aren't about appreciating the art or enjoying the sport*. They're about networking and socialising. That's all these people do.

*See pics in today's papers of empty seats at Wimbledon, because all the corporate hospitality guests are there for the piss up, not for the on court action.

I've been pondering Raab (yes I know wrong on many levels), along the lines of; he was one of the co-authors of Britannia Unchained so I expected him to be in the gang, but he was dropped by Dizzy Lizzy, has not uttered a word in respect of the affect said book has had on the economy. Is he doing a Gove?

Currently recuperating and turning our for Britannia's 2nd XI.

They know it's a bust, and need a couple of relatively clean skins for the next run.

I heard today from a very reliable source that just before Raab left the Ministry of Justice a number of staff were about to make formal complaints about his bullying behaviour. When he left the staff members decided not to pursue the matter but after he returned last week the staff decided that they would make official complaints about him. Rather than investigate the complaints the Department of Justice has instead opted to provide the staff members with counselling!

Is that anything to do with Antonia Romeo, the Permanent Secretary, I wonder?

I saw a tweet from her which seemed not very civil service. Supposedly bound for the Treasury till the budget went tits up.

I'm not sure. But I do know that when Raab first got the job at Justice he was quickly surrounded by small group of young high flying civil servants presumably to try and keep him out of trouble and I think many of the complaints came from this group. When he was minister first time around many of his civil servants stayed behind drinking in their offices because they were worried that if they went drinking in Westminster bars they might be overheard slagging him off.

I'm glad that the Guardian have picked up on the story. When I was told a few years ago that Raab had been surrounded the brightest and best civil servants in order to try and stop him making too many cock ups I said it wouldn't end well. Bullying people who have been put their to watch your back is a pretty stupid thing to do.

A few journalists and Tory supporting Tweeters are trying to push the line that all Raab did wrong was throw a few tomatoes across a room while shouting. It seems to be a rehashing of 'It was only a piece of cake'. I really don't think young highflying civil servants looking at a long career in the civil service would kick up a fuss over a one off trivial incident.

Bit of an underwhelming DPMQs today. Raab playing up the "presumed innocent until proven guilty" angle, while Rayner seemed intent on needling him into an eruption. In the end, she didn't make any specific accusations, he kept to his line, and the Mogg cunt came in with some whataboutery.

Actually, no.
A Tory MP said he was innocent until 'proved' guilty.

Which is logical bollocks as Abers will be along shortly to reinforce...

[but what do you expect from Tories, eh?eh? Bunch of cunts and thick with it.]

The media are reporting that there are only 2 formal complaints against Raab but I was told by somebody very close to events that there were definitely 5 people who had grievances against him. This would suggest several complainants either don't have faith in the complaints system or they have been bought off with the offers of better jobs elsewhere in Whitehall.
