Penny Mordaunt Tweeted this gem earlier.
From today, our new Energy Price Guarantee will limit what you pay for each unit of energy. This, with other measures, will cut the average home energy bill by an expected £1,400 this year. It will help curb inflation and control other household costs.
Limiting the rise in energy bills is not the same as cutting bills. Even with the government interventions most people will still see their bills double this year compared to last years bills.

One of the last rational posters on ConservativeHome
As ever, I am fascinated by posts that come from those Tory members whose determined and grim loyalty to the party is such that they are willing to twist their brains pretzel shaped in justifying, defending, supporting and explaining away literally everything and anything that is done by Conservative leaders.

Before Truss they doggedly supported Johnson and before him they were no less doggedly loyal to May and previously to Cameron. We are now in the truly surreal situation where loyalists are apportioning blame in a kind of Quixotic pick'n'mix involving a heady combination of past Labour governments, future Labour governments, the IMF, the EU, Putin, Biden, lefty lawyers, the judiciary, immigrants, albanian gangmasters, bankers, city traders, the media, the BBC, the Treasury, the Bank of England, Remainers, the woke and Uncle Tom Cobley and all. By comparison, David Icke is pretty normal.

Perhaps the simplest explanation is the best one to choose. In 2016, Cameron's idiotically complacent referendum set in train a chain of events that has seen the Conservative Party descend at an increasing pace towards political and economic lunacy. The current debacle will, one hopes, trigger the point at which those who actually believe in traditional Tory values finally cry " enough is enough" and take the necessary steps to reclaim the party from those who have traduced and destroyed its very foundations.

We need a Starmer-led Labour government for the simple reason that the Conservative Party is quite literally incapable. 12 years in power and here we are. Anyone, regardless of their inherent political persuasions, who thinks that the current iteration of the Conservative Party is safe to be let out on its own needs to take a long, long look at the events of the past 12 years and how things have unravelled. Time for a long lie down in a darkened room until the fever subsides and a sense of calm, clear-headed, cool and logical purpose returns.

The country needs a change. Sorry, but it really does. While Truss is most certainly not Johnson, just as he was not May, just changing leaders and pretending its an entirely new government is simply not going to cut it any more.
