Also for Lisa Ann Corpora.
Just for anyone else who doesn't get the Lisa Ann Corpora reference, don't google that name at work! :o
Bit late for that (I’m not at work but in the apartment. My nicer half wasn’t amused)

Now if the reference had been from Abers…. :D

Wow, had no idea how unpopular Palin was. Shame it's only for 2 months. I would think enough Palin voters will vote for the other Republican in November.
Apparently it's due to her stepping down during her term as governor.

538 are pretty bullish on governor races for Democrats. Though the godawful Kari Lake seems to be very close in Arizona.
On another forum a poster who lives in Minnesota is convinced the governor's race there is closer because the Democrats don't have billboards up and aren't saturating the airwaves.

Might just be they're very confident.

And I can't see this playing that well. Bloody Democrats, using his own words against him.
Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Jensen continues to downplay abortion as an issue in the 2022 election, releasing an advertisement this week insisting his Democratic opponent Tim Walz is “weaponizing” the issue in the campaign.

In the past, Jensen and his running mate Matt Birk have both said they oppose abortions in all cases except where a mother’s life is threatened
Though in fairness he normally chooses words very carefully.
At an April event held by anti-COVID restriction group Mask Off MN, Jensen drew parallels between pandemic restrictions and the rise of Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. The candidate’s comments were initially reported by the online news source TC Jewfolk on Monday, Aug. 22.

In a video posted to Facebook on Tuesday, Aug. 23, Jensen remained firm in the face of criticism from political opponents and Jewish advocacy groups, remarking: “This is how I think, and you don’t get to be my thought police person.”

This is rather worrying

Hundreds of US public officials, police officers and soldiers are or have been involved with the far-right Oath Keepers militia, according to a report from an anti-extremism organisation.

The Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism compared the names from a leak of Oath Keepers membership rolls with public records and social media.

Some alleged members have denied any affiliation with the group.

Oath Keepers are accused of playing a key role in last year's Capitol riots.
Analysis of the leaked data by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) identified 81 people across the country who currently hold public office, or are running in November's midterm elections.

Researchers also found that nearly 400 current law enforcement officers and more than 1,000 former officers are connected to the group, along with more than 100 currently serving military personnel.

But yeah, Biden and his commie-lovin' socialists are the real threat to American freedom and democracy.

This is where the Constitutional protection of freedom of hate speech gets you.

It is an excellent reason to avoid the USA unless you present as whiter than white.
Even then, you might be unfortunate enough to encounter a law officer who believes he's doing George Washington's work.

The various Pruod Boy / Oathkeeper / 3%er groups seem hellbent on reenacting the civil war.
I don't think their bullshit will end until a militia "demonstration" runs out of hand, and gets brassed up by the military.

Interesting article on the problems Republicans are facing with Abortion.

https://www.vox.com/2022/9/10/23344663/ ... n-abortion
South Carolina’s state senate on Thursday refused to pass a bill that would outlaw abortion after fertilization, with some exceptions, despite a Republican majority in that body. In South Carolina, as in states like Michigan, Kansas, Idaho, and Indiana, the challenge of legislating such extreme bans is becoming increasingly apparent — and abortion is becoming a landmark issue for Republicans.

Five Republican senators joined Democrats in opposing the bill in South Carolina’s senate, with GOP Sen. Tom Davis threatening a filibuster should the measure as written come to a vote. Davis joined all three Republican women in the senate, as well as one male GOP colleague, in filibustering the House’s severe restrictions; Davis and one woman Republican senator, Penry Gustafson, voted in favor of the compromise measure.

South Carolina has already passed an onerous law banning abortion after six weeks, with exceptions up to 20 weeks in the case of rape or incest. The compromise legislation the senate did pass reduces that time period to 12 weeks and requires police to collect DNA from an aborted fetus.

It is more restrictive than the so-called Fetal Heartbeat Bill the General Assembly passed last year, before the Supreme Court decided the Dobbs vs. Jackson case, which overturned Roe v. Wade, but avoids the total ban with no exceptions that House Republicans initially attempted to pass. That ban is stayed while South Carolina’s Supreme Court hears a challenge to the law under the right to privacy, and the state’s pre-Dobbs 20-week ban is presently in effect, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

Some not particularly good economic news from the US. Inflation is still around, even with gasoline prices falling. I don't know how much that'll feed across to the UK, but it doesn't suggest to me that "no more Treasury orthodoxy Truss" is on a particularly safe wicket. At least, not without the Bank going very hard on interest rates.
