The dead hand of Thatcher, redistributing wealth to the already wealthy.

And more, in a very similar vein for "Pork Barrel" Sunak.

Rishi Sunak admits taking money from deprived areas

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... ived-areas
But Sunak’s supporters rallied around him, with the Conservative Tees Valley mayor, Ben Houchen, arguing that Johnson led the party to electoral victory on a pledge to invest in areas “that have been ignored at the expense of urban cities”.
Time for those Rural Cities to get in on the action.

They've been doing this since 2010.

In education Labour had a policy of providing extra funding for deprived areas, a lot, but not all, of which were of course Labour authorities.

In a move strongly reminiscent of the Jim Crow laws in the USA the Tories immediately announced that instead of targeted funding we would have equal funding, though in fact that meant sending more to the shires. The Excellence in Cities programme was cancelled and the money went to Tory authorities. (The Gifted and Talented programme funding went to a new assisted places scheme).

It is as unfair to treat unequals equally as it is to treat equals unequally...

The body of the Guardian article makes clear that the economic policy has been running for some time and isn't new.

What you'll typically find with any of these Tory "assistance schemes" is.
1. Stick a party member, relative or donor in charge, with a nice big salary for relatively few hours.
2. Pass the money through connected businesses (Job creators?) in the area, rather than to those in need.
3. Direct the cash to the wealthy enclaves, or exclusively to grammar schools or sports funding to pony clubs...

You get the picture.

I assume Rishi must have performed well last night because the Truss cheerleaders have spent all day moaning that the audience was rigged and leaking damaging stories about Rishi. Having spent all of yesterday claiming she had a comfortable lead her supporters are suddenly getting twitchy. I wonder if Rishi has got any mud to sling at Truss.

I'd be surprised if he hasn't. I'd be surprised if anyone who's been in contact with her for more than nanoseconds hasn't

He's now adopted the Sweller line that people on benefits* are taking the piss and ought to be working for the minimum wage even if that means they can't feed their families or pay their rent.

Scum.

*I suspect that includes pensioners and the disabled...

Salary thresholds is rubbish has he will need to make exemptions on teaching and nursing.

All he can actually do is restrict tuition fees, watch that go down well, effectively the Tories are going tell you what you can study, where you study and give you the basic minimum to study it in the form of a loan.
