Is it that the Labour leader can’t pull together a vision, or that he won’t? Or that he won’t because he can’t? Until he does, the best thing Keir Starmer has going for him is Boris Johnson, and the best thing Boris Johnson has going for him is Keir Starmer. What an unpromising symbiosis. If you wanted a tagline for prime minister’s questions, you could do worse than “the unwatchable v the unbearable”.

I dunno. I appreciate Starmer is often walking a tightrope. It does feel like that tightrope is sometimes all of 3 inches off the ground though and about as exciting as the live feed from a pitch drop experiment. A bit more passion (which I suspect he actually feels, but tactically suppresses) wouldn’t go amiss now and again.

Looks like Starmer's going to allow the frontbenchers showing up to pickets thing to slide. Fair enough. Nobody really cares if a PPS shows up to a protest. Lots may like it.

This is part of a much longer thread on inflation, unions, strikes, the economy. This isn't a criticism of unions, or their leaders, but I think it illustrates that the Labour leaders job is a bit harder than pitching up at picket lines. You've got to balance that with other things. And you've got to convince the electorate you can balance these things. Just hold Bozo to account.

Starmer seems to have let this slide, rightly. I wonder if this is such a problem for Sir Keir. He's the guy who urges all sides together and says what the government are doing wrong, other people in Labour have a different emphasis. If Javid can basically say Sunak's wrong for not handing out tax cuts, does anyone care about a few PPSs?

I think the problem is a lot of members see the role of leader as just sticking it to the Tories.

We will face more strikes and it will get more difficult to not appear in solidarity, this one is pretty easy as it’s the RMT and they are non-affiliated . I think it would be stupid but sadly I feel in recent weeks Labour are doing a fair bit of stupid. Leaks here and there about what they are dropping without any alternative to what they will come up with.

Labour striked the right tone as suggested by polling this is a fight the Conservatives have started, let’s not blow a chance to get rid of them by petty party infighting.

Yeah in her article she doesn't mention the word banned once. Rodgers was known for stirring by trying to get clicks and always made sure to get a comment from Momentum.
