Like Toby Young she has got a long way in education by telling various Tory ministers exactly what they want to hear.

I work in an academy where the academy chain seems to come up with a new initiative every month. Most of the stuff has been lifted from other academy chains or from other countries. Few of the initiatives are ever properly implemented and are usually abandoned after a few months. Staff turnover is very high by the management is very good at PR.

When I was a kid, in the 1980s, there was an assumption that - particularly around kids - anything American was intrinsically bigger, better, flashier than its old world equivalent. In many a TV drama, the "cool kid" would be the token Yank. Part of the appeal of utter trash such as Knight Rider or the A Team, was that it was American, and therefore took place in a wonderland where M16s got fired, helicopters crashed, and everyone had cool cars.

It appears that some of this sentiment is still going strong with the government. They really do seem to be suckers for a transatlantic accent. Probably think everything sounds cooler in it.

A touch racist perhaps; in the style of David Baddiel / Jason Lee.

An alternative view, I wonder if the Head of the Social Mobility Commission would ever allow herself to consider this?

Poor Shakespeare, he's either getting banned, or they're letting blacks and women play characters like Othello and Juliet. What's a poor gammon to do? Aside from get angry and carry on watching Ant and Dec?

Has Linda Bellos taken over at the DfE?
When I was doing my GCEs we were the first year *not* to do Shakespeare in English Lit.

This was in 1979...
