This is taxpayers’ money and surely now it is time to review, for example, the big spenders, like the NHS and welfare
So spake Richard Drax, the MP for South Dorset. He's got Weymouth in his constituency. He'll doubtless be telling the very many retired folk that he thinks their pensions and hospitals ought to be cut.

For all his faults, he’s put many smiles on people’s faces at the end of the pier.
Well, he did try and kill it off before...

The Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi has been touring the TV newsrooms today promoting his latest education reforms. At a time when teachers are quitting the profession in droves Zahawi thinks that increasing the length of the school day and setting unrealistic targets is the answer. He was also bullshitting claiming that there was clear evidence that academy trust had performed better during the pandemic than LEA schools but where is this evidence? There have been very few OFSTED inspections in the last two years and no external exam results. The only evidence that does exist is the teacher assessed grades that have been used for the last two years. These are hardly reliable figures to base government reforms on.

It's just occurred to me that increasing the length of the school day has nothing to do with education. It's all about childcare for Hard Working Families ™. With the kids in school for longer people will be able to put in more hours at their minimum wage jobs, increasing their pay slightly, and giving the government a reason to cut their in-work benefits.

There's a lot to unpack there, and Wallis is obviously in a very fucked up place. That said, it's perfectly possible to sympathise with someone and still consider them a corrupt, soulless idiot.
