Corbyn may have been consistent on Putin, but he was also consistent on his forgiveness for/turning a blind eye to the actions of Putin’s Russia - from Stop the War’s very selective choice of what wars to stop to Corbyn’s desire to get Russia’s expert opinion on whether it was one of their nerve agents that killed someone in Salisbury.

Anyone can always be on the right side of history of big, obvious movements if you’re willing to ignore their own history of being catastrophically wrong on occasions where it was much more down to their own personal judgement.
