1. Putin’s obsession with Ukraine may be his undoing. If sanctions start to bite - and aside from Johnson’s feeble first go, they’re harsher than people predicted - and more oligarchs and members of the Duma find they can’t take their lovely holidays and trips abroad anymore, he’ll be looking at increased discomfort domestically. He’s believed his own hype as a strongman, is making enemies at home (dressing down his staff on national TV might have given them impression he wanted, but they won’t have liked it), and the general Russian public seem bemused by a needless campaign.
2. If it helps get Europe off of Russian fossil fuels, then great - that permanently cuts off money and influence
3. Trump’s fawning has made even republican voters baulk. He may have made himself and the GOP less popular just before a big election year and around the time the next presidential runners start seriously looking at bids.

None of this makes what has happened remotely good, but the outcome only going the one way towards WW3 is absolutely not a given either.

The show was pulled from the main schedule of RT, formerly Russia Today, but is available in full on the website.

Sir Vince told The Scotsman he has asked RT not to broadcast the interview in light of the full-blown invasion of Ukraine.
