A piece of good news; the blue wall has been breached in Cambridgeshire where the Tories have lost overall control. Lib Dems and Labour both made gains and its most likely due to younger demographics being priced out of Cambridge. I doubt its farmers having change of heart over habits of a lifetime but Libs were strong in the Fens before UKIP became the dustbin vote of choice.

Said it before in 2017 and 2019 and I'll say it again - to beat the Tory shithouse you need to fight dirty, not just the gloves off but also make no apologies for taking shots to their balls if it needs to be. Starmer to me comes across as a decent man with what should be the right way of going about issues, but that resonates little with a post-reality TV electorate that loves being fed shit and told they'll enjoy it.

That's true as well.

They have lost one but some increases in marginals and not so marginals.
Yep. Pleased to see Plaid beaten in South Wales, because being attacked from both sides is difficult. Shame they couldn't win Aberconwy from the Tories. Glad they won Yns Mon which the Tories won in 2019 at Westminster.

I think Burnham could be got into Westminster by 2024, if Starmer doesn't improve.

Metro mayoralty seems like a useful thing for an aspiring politician. Executive experience (say what you like about Johnson being London mayor for 8 years beats having been on Haringey Housing Committee in the seventies) but also a fresh outsider. Labour struggles with the perception it's anti-business (among other things). Burnham can say "I got out there, I got investment in".

Interesting to note some quite mixed results

They lost 3 in Liverpool but considering what happened that’s pretty poor for the opposition parties. Sefton, Labour took 6 including 2 in Southport and one in Birkdale (basically the poshest area alongside Formby of Sefton) that one was a shock.

Bury, Blackburn and Oldham they also kept losses down, you wonder how much effect Burnham had.

The Lancashire area bar Bolton seems to holding fair for Labour.

Oldham and Blackburn have high Asian populations, which might help Labour. Then again, I thought the Tories might be doing better than before with Asian Brexiters.

Tories still in majority in Gloucestershire (of 2) but lost 3 seats. Not a particularly Brexitty county, Gloucestershire. I suppose that's a fair result for the Tories.
