Thing is, they could easily get the anthem played to meet their needs through any number of alternative methods. The point is to fuck with other people.

For the record, the Beeb hasn't played GSTQ at BBC One's closedown now for over 24 years, not because of any anti-British bullshit but because when BBC News 24 (as it was then) launched, it simply took up the channel's downtime and thus the channel never officially had a closedown since then. And just wait until they find out that no other BBC TV channel in its history ever played the national anthem at startup or closedown either.

You'd have thought GBeebies would be proud to play Something That Doesn't Exist Save The Head Of An Institution That Shouldn't, wouldn't you? At prime time, so the Silent Majority ™ can put down their knives and forks and stand to attention while their dinners go cold.

The ratings for The National Anthem would be the lowest of a very poor lot.

Just ignore it, they're after a reaction. And park it for later use.
While daily covid cases approached 250,000; the honourable member wasted parliamentary time calling for the National Anthem to be played on television.
In the year that the local authority laid off 32 classroom assistants fomr our schools, the councillor ensured that 12 hours or meeting time were spent reciting prayers.
- And none of the jobs were miraculously saved.

Rosindell has been pushing that national anthem bollocks almost as long as Amess' peculiar pride for Southend to become a city.

The denizens of Romford are an easy bunch to win onside. They'll never take you to task for voting to impoverish them further and improve any chance of closing the wealth inequality gap, just bang on about Brenda and dress your dog up in a union jack waistcoat and the majority will keep on rolling in.

Even if they did bring back the dreadful dirge, how big does he think the viewership is at 1am? Does he also think Brenda is worried just because it hasn't been played, everyone's either forgotten about her or hates her guts?

To be honest, after 70 years of having it sung to her, I'm sure she's probably thoroughly sick of it.

Piers Morgan has announced his return to The Sun with a series of tweets declaring that he is going to wage war on wokeness, narcistic celebrities and Meghan Markle. Given that sales of 'The Sun' in California are almost non-existent I'm pretty sure that Meghan won't be losing much sleep over his pointless rants. Meanwhile corrupt politician and Prince Andrew will be able to relax knowing that Piers won't be paying them much attention.

I see Elvis Costello was on Saturday Kitchen of all things at the weekend. He's also made minor waves by asking radio stations not to play Oliver's Army, because the language therein is something he's not comfortable to be associated with

Innit weird how those non-partisan free speech warriors aren't insistent that radio keeps playing the unexpurgated version of the song that's explicitly against colonialism and the British empire?

Deeply strange, indeed.

I've not heard Oliver's Army on the radio for years, I presume the "woke broadcasters" bleep out the N-word* anyway do they?

* I didn't see the interview but I presume that's what Elvis is no-longer comfortable with.

I noted the absence of non-partisan free speech warriors (and the police) when the statue of Eric Gill was being vandalised outside the BBC. I wonder how silent they'll be when Gill's war memorials come under attack?

I really don't get why so many people call into JO'B with this attitude of "Oh, let's see him counter THIS!", only to have their arses handed back to them on a plate.

Oh yeah, they're morons. That's it.
