Another thing to remember is that her CV was quite healthy when her husband, the TV screenwriter and producer Jack Rosenthal, was alive.

I know that might sound mean, but given how she's done her repeated storming out of the Labour Party, and eagerly signed up for Cummings's "only Nazis vote for Corbyn" PPB, fuck her.

Classic BBC stenography.
It led the radio news reports for most of yesterday.

If you were a newspaper sub, and the editor was off for a long pre-crristmas lunch, how would you headline it.

I've got déjà vu all over again!
In the 1980s we were told "Political Correctness was killing comedy" because "jokes were banned" by those right-on Lefty kill joys at the BBC and Channel 4..
To be clear, the jokes they were talking about were ablest, homophobic, racist and sexist and they weren't banned, they were replaced on telly by more popular comedians.
Leading the charge then were Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning - today the baton has passed to Maureen Lipman.

When your stock in trade goes out of fashion you have two choices. If you're genuinely talented you can evolve into something else (for example Julie Walters - from playing downtrodden working-class housewives to Hollywood star). If you're less so, you can spend the rest of your career bemoaning the fact that there's no room for talent anymore (I saw a Steve Harley gig when he must have made half a dozen lengthy diatribes on the subject).

Andy reminded me of a story I read some years ago, when Maureen made a speech that went down well at some luvvie dinner. The next speaker said something like "Follow that - I wish I was married to Jack Rosenthal," to which she went apeshit and wrote about how many people had sympathised with her for such an appalling slur. I thought at the time that she'd made a bit of a fuss over nothing, and you could see it as a tribute to him rather than an attack on her.

It was in the 10pm on Sunday ITV slot; post-bath and the last thing before going to bed to get up early in the morning. See also Two's Company and a few things starring John Alderton.

Three men and a woman have been found not guilty of criminal damage after toppling the statue of the slave trader Edward Colston during a Black Lives Matter protest in Bristol, an act of public dissent that reverberated around the world...

Maureen hasn’t thought this through. The logical progression of her edict is that Jewish actors would only be able to portray jews. I’m pretty sure that Tyrone Dobbs’ nana in Coronation Street ain’t Jewish, so Maureen would be fucked for that part alone.

Well, let's look at what she's complaining about. Helen Mirren playing a role that would be suitable for her.

She didn't complain about Daniel Craig in Defiance or Munich. Or Anatol Yusef (Cypriot) as Meyer Lansky in Boardwalk Empire. Or Ian McKellen in the X-Men films. Or, just to show it's not just the lads, Ellie Kendrick as Anne Frank or Susan Lynch as Rebecca in Ivanhoe.

A cynical take is that this is just sour grapes for someone who despite her best efforts will be most remembered by the public as "her off the 80s BT adverts".
