Police are trying to trace a woman in connection with a theft at an NHS test and trace centre during an anti-vaccination protest.
Why are they "trying to trace" this woman? They were there. They watched her commit the theft. They did nothing. Now they're "trying to trace" her.

If they did their fucking jobs the other day they'd already have all the information they want.

This is becoming an all too common complaint. I don't understand why they act in this way.

"What could be made to stand in front of the CPS?" I suspect is the answer.

"Making the situation worse" by intervening is another, especially when there's a hundred camera phones trained on you.

Perhaps they'd do something if the protestors held a peaceful candle-lit vigil for a woman killed by a serving police officer.

Policing has move away from doing something at the time to making sure they have enough video evidence for a later conviction. I can't help but think that it these were football supporters their images would have been circulated nationwide and a few doors getting ready to be kicked off theri hinges. I also wonder whether, if these protests were organised by those on the left, how well-infiltrated they would have been by now.

In other words, getting something that the CPS can see will stick and not waste already-stretched court time?

Given SKS was a former head of the CPS, this could backfire if Labour try to push it.

Though he could run with it as yet another vital area of public services gutted by Tory austerity. The Secret Barrister has been banging that drum for years now.

On another note, has Magic Grandad denounced his brother publicly now Piers is a borderline domestic terrorist?

Using Dido’s “Track and Trace”; no chance of finding her

In my experience there is an attitude amongst the police that certain people or professions should put up with abuse and just get on with it.
Those include teachers (in my direct experience - "Well what did you expect?" said to a young teacher who had been assaulted), doctors and nurses, politicians, especially lefties and some celebrities and people of colour. So harassing them isn't a proper crime.
And the police only bother with 'proper crime' as we all know.

I think it's partly that and also because police numbers on the ground are so stretched that taking a couple away to make an arrest would cause further problems, plus these days anything seen as intimidation/brutality is likely to aggravate the situation and lead to the police being attacked.

Don’t be so daft.
I would guess that Gramps has resorted to his default position of natural sympathy for the persecuted while not being daft enough to say so publicly.
