David Frost’s attitude to negotiations with the EU to try to make some sort of sense out of the pig’s ear of an agreement that Johnson signed up to without even reading it was, from the beginning, belligerent, antagonistic, pig-headed, crass, and prize-winningly stupid.

As has already been observed, Frost would not be resigning his post if he were anywhere near concluding a satisfactory agreement. The astonishingly strong suspicion is that he has thrown in the towel because he has had a Damascene revelation that he cannot possibly succeed in his appointed role, and has seen which way the wind is blowing. Principled objection to restrictive “Plan B” Covid-19 restrictions, my arse.

There’s also a strong whiff of Frost’s relationship with Johnson, such as it is, having broken down. The “rat leaving a sinking ship” metaphor is distinctly apposite here.

I am speculating here, but bear with me.

We know that Johnson and his clique don't go in for experts or planning.
Announces a policy, let the plebs in the Civil Service bear the brunt of implementation.
When it inevitably goes tits up, blame civil service factions, while issuing more and more JFDI orders.

This style of management (JFDI = Just Fucking Do It) suits the talent vacuums like Grayling, Hancock and Patel.
The "Hard taskmaster" plays well with the ageing membership who likely fancy themselves as Victorian mill owners, if not Jamaican sugar plantation overseers.

What if ... the JFDI, which was always aimed at Civil servants, is now being applied to ministers whose faces aren't flavour of the week.
You're making us look bad Frost - just fucking sit those DUP community leaders down and show them what's what!!
Does this explain the recent ructions among the minor ministers and some backbenchers?

It's a poisoned chalice, and he must know she's going to fail. Who's next? Gove?
Did wonder if that’s why he picked Javid for health.
