In which Quentin Letts spekes his branes on Any Questions:

“… but also, to me, they’ve become instruments of control [groans] and I find them slightly sinister [more groans] … I think there is something to do with thought control about this [more groans and a solitary clap] … I think there is an element of officialdom trying to put out a message by forcing us to wear a mask rather than the simple health science”.

The idea that masks are a pathology of control is so pathetically limited. Control is a fact of society, especially in a pandemic. Saying the mask is just about seeing how high we'll jump is like saying the Giant Baatard Villain is so evil he'll TEAR UP YOUR NECTAR POINTS, rather than, I dunno, kill a load of people. If you're going down this path at the fucking least go whole hog and say vaccines are alien serum injectors or something.

This is the same mask that for much of the year has not been compulsory, right? The same mask that people who don't wear rarely get punished, right? Get in the fucking sea you fucking child.

Total lack of imagination, classic case of 'read a few Wikipedia pages and have an overdeveloped sense of self, here's my worldview'.

If you take it to further logical steps, then wearing any clothing at all in public is a form of "submission". And I'd like to see those rat-lickers try and practice that at this time of year.

If you live in society, you accept limitations on your freedom in return for social harmony.

As Terry Pratchett said, natural is sitting in a tree waiting for your dinner to die.

And back to Rod Hull, can't help noticing that Emu quite often attacked certain areas of the anatomy. Which in retrospect, is a bit unsettling.

Billy Connolly of course had the best response when they were both on Parkinson. As Emu lunged, he grabbed the bird and said to Rod, "Try that again, and I'll break his neck and your arm."

Andrew Neil's turning into the new Alan Sked. Seeing his project usurped by Fargle and any standards or intellectual pretensions ousted in favour of populist junk.

I've seen a few people say that, with 20:20 hindsight and enough time elapsed for the suspension of disbelief to wear off.

I can imagine this will be used as justification for... something.

Almost 70 medics who attended a large Christmas party in southern Spain have since tested positive for Covid-19, authorities say.

Most of the 68 infected are doctors and nurses working in the intensive care unit at Málaga's regional hospital.

Lone wolf. Own initiative. No suggestion of outside influence.

A man who set fire to a nightclub in a protest against Covid-19 vaccine passports has been jailed for six years.

Owen Marshall ignited a towel soaked in petrol he had posted through the letterbox of SWX in Bristol.

Police said Marshall had become "obsessed" with lockdown restrictions and targeted other venues in the city...

...He said: "Owen Marshall's actions were motivated by the completely misguided belief the venues he targeted were about to introduce Covid vaccine passports.

"His obsession with Covid restrictions ultimately led him to carrying out the extremely reckless attack on SWX and it is only through sheer luck no one was physically harmed...

When will the powers-that-be wake up to the fact that those twats posting their batshit-crazy anti-Covid shit on the internet and shrieking it in the streets are fucking dangerous? *They* might not be doing anything other than promulgating wibble, but other twats pay attention to that wibble and act on it.

Social distance is back in fashion, too.
Let's not be too harsh on the Torygraph.
They're still working hard on their brown minister recognition colouring books.

Thought this would be better here than the jokes thread...

(Tweet's been deleted - it was a comedy video parodying anti-vaxxers, or to put them better, "Pro-Virus", with the key gag being that they gained all their knowledge on virology & epidemiology as well as other related crankery thanks to reading shite on Facebook.)
