I see what's happened.

In the first link you posted the URL is given as
Code: Select all
https://echo360.org/media/df6327b6-1e39%20...%20f8e/public
But in the second link it is
Code: Select all
https://echo360.org/media/df6327b6-1e39-401e-affb-5220eaedef8e/public
The first link is an abbreviation but the correct, full link is in the second one.

Never having heard of Critical Race Theory before, I thought I'd Google it. Wikipedia has an interesting article about it. The first and last paragraphs of the precis are reproduced below.

Critical race theory (CRT) is a body of legal scholarship and an academic movement of US civil-rights scholars and activists who seek to examine the intersection of race and US law and to challenge mainstream American liberal approaches to racial justice.[1][2][3][4] CRT examines social, cultural, and legal issues primarily as they relate to race and racism in the US.[5][6] A tenet of CRT is that racism and disparate racial outcomes are the result of complex, changing, and often subtle social and institutional dynamics, rather than explicit and intentional prejudices of individuals.[7][8]

Since 2020, conservative US lawmakers have sought to ban or restrict critical race theory instruction along with other anti‑racism programs.[8][20] Critics of these efforts say the lawmakers have poorly defined or misrepresented the tenets and importance of CRT and that the goal of the laws is to more broadly silence discussions of racism, equality, social justice, and the history of race.[21][22][23]

CRT is basically 'it's systemic, stupid'.

The issue a lot of people have with it, I reckon, is that it does for race what class does for Marxism. By that I mean purely it casts 'whiteness' as a state of being, a socio-political arrangement that needs describing, but also, a la class analysis, can frankly feel pretty reductive at times in its pop culture application.

But the flip side is people taking offense because they're being asked to investigate their own context, and that should be par for the course, imo.

I think the reason certain people are having problems with this can be summed up by a throwaway line from one of the older characters in the TV series Cagney and Lacey nearly four decades ago.

I can remember when being white and a man meant something.
They've been king of the dunghill for so long it frightens them to think they are no longer entitled to go straight to the front of the queue. And they lash out at those who are coming to remove their unearned privilege and entitlement. The fact that they have had it drummed into them over several centuries that they are superior because they have lighter skin is the underlying theme to all this.

Only a Pawn in their Game.

A South politician preaches to the poor white man
"You got more than the blacks, don't complain
You're better than them, you been born with white skin, " they explain
And the Negro's name
Is used, it is plain
For the politician's gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game

Actual member of the US House of Representatives. You may have come across this guy before. He bizarrely attacked John Kerry as a believer in fake science on the basis that he had a degree in Political Science.

Here Thomas Massey asserts a MAGA bloke in the crowd on 6/1 was an FBI plant. Evidence comes from a news sight that looks like a teenager knocked it up in his bedroom, and the fact that the Attorney General, when asked, said he wouldn't comment on an ongoing investigation.

The orange shitgibbon's shiny new soshul meeja platform had been up and running for two hours before his own account was hacked. Access to the site is now shut down    (screenshot from another place. Well, you didn't think I'd go there myself, did you?)
