Almost nine million people, representing one in six adults in Great Britain, have not been able to buy essential food items in the past two weeks because they were not available, official research suggests.

According to an Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey, 17% of adults could not buy some of the grocery products they needed between 22 September and 3 October, reflecting the widespread impact of supply chain disruption and labour shortages.

Did like how the BBC at one point did paraphrase Johnson last week as not being concerned, what it meant he believed the supply issues would solve themselves however from the headline it looked like he didn’t care.

Which if I’m honest is probably closer the truth, as for these “Christmas cancelled and you won’t get your Turkey” the article above shows what food chain supply issues actually mean.

It’s food in general not specifically what you stick on your table at Xmas.

We're already noticing an effect on waste collection, remaining staff having to do extra shifts.

Some of the more... 'interesting' commenters BTL in various places are convinced that things such as the CO2 shortage and the "manufactured" fuel shortage are being done to soften the populace up for the future introduction of rationing.

Ungritted roads... won't they be fun. They're already very selective round here and last year there were several roads that would normally get gritted that didn't, including a couple of relatively busy A-roads.

Which reminds me: maybe I should get the winter wheels and tyres out soon and examine them - they didn't get used last year so they may not be in good shape.
