IDS has spent all those years in politics without ever discovering bureaucrats don't do anything off their own bat. If the bureaucrats*have* fucked things up it's only because they were following government instructions.

So, Mr Smith, who's to blame here? The bureaucrats? Or their political taskmasters who told them what to do?

There's a Mogg-light on a forum I followed who absolutely, positively insists that it is ALWAYS the fault of civil servants, never the Tories.

From another place (from a British cyclist living in the Netherlands).

I can't read much Dutch, but it looks like shit is getting serious.

Long article in the Dutch press about the EU getting ready for trade sanctions & other actions against the local rogue state.

https://www.volkskrant.nl/nieuws-achter ... ~b91f92f3/

Partly for this reason, the Commission has started to privately inform the Member States about harsh sanctions if London still ignores the protocol at the end of this year. This does not only concern the usual lawsuits, but direct trade restrictions (import duties) as well as the denial of British requests to participate in (EU-funded) research programs. Also on the sanctions list: restricting the freedom of British financial services providers to operate in the lucrative European market.

FRANCE THREATS UNITED KINGDOM WITH SANCTIONS FOR FISHING BOATS
France threatens sanctions against the United Kingdom as smaller French fishing boats are no longer welcome in British fishing waters. London announced on Wednesday that only 12 of the 47 French fishing requests from vessels up to 12 meters have been honored so far.

Fishing rights are politically ultra sensitive on both sides of the Channel. For the summer, British and French frigates sail in the waters around Jersey and Guernsey to keep the peace. Due to Brexit, French fishermen now have to request permission to sail in British waters. Of the smaller boats, London has approved a quarter of those applications. Paris thinks far too little. If London does not come up with more, France will consider less energy supplies to the United Kingdom. For the larger boats, London was more generous: a total of approximately 1,600 French boats are welcome.

British jobs for British people

Government hands Brexit helpline contract – to company in India
The call centres will help British businesses navigate a sea of new rules set to come in from the start of next year...

...The Department for International Trade is set to announce details of the hotline this week.

It is expected to help companies navigate a sea of new rules, including documentation and physical checks on goods, that are due to come into force next year.

From January 1st businesses will face full customs declarations and controls. Further trade hurdles will be phased in after that...

And another one.

A million unfilled jobs – and no one to serve the Tories in Manchester
The city’s hospitality venues blame Brexit for a lack of experienced staff as the Conservative party conference arrives in town...

Who would have thought that telling all those Europeans to fuck off would leave the Tories short of serfs to snap their fingers at and look down on at their conference?

Lots of substitutions in my Ocado order today: most bread products, butter, desserts. French stuff is missing (Le President and Bonne Maman).

Apparently I will be eating Lurpak, whatever that is. And brioche burger buns...
