Gove’s housing stuff is really good but yeah Bad Enoch will demonstrate how absolutely poor his judgement is sometimes.

I agree about some of his housing stuff. Among other things, he's taken heed of a Twitter account that flags up unacceptable conditions in social housing and has taken the radical step of phoning the providers up himself. "Hi, it's the Secretary of State here, is this stuff true about Mr X's flat true? Well, that's not on" probably goes a long way". I think doing that is generally underrated, especially in a sector with lots of substandard providers.

He's not after a job, he knows Sunak won't win, he's putting the "I told you so" quote out there to refer back to when he needs to demonstrate he was on the right side of history.

He's only 54. I can't believe he's prepared to give up yet. If he doesn't get a job right in there this time, big likelihood that he's looking at opposition before he gets another chance.

Looks like Gove thinks there may be an opportunity for a "Tory Unity" candidate in the near future, presumably because the pro-Boris and pro-Rishi factions cannot stand one another.

I suspect Labour would be reasonably pleased if faced with a Gove-led Tory party at the next GE. He was always pretty unpopular with the public in the first place, and that was before he attached himself to the increasingly discredited Vote Leave campaign in 2016.

Lots of other juicy attack lines as well - "The man who brought Dominic Cummings into government" being the most obvious, plus of course the whole "We've had enough of experts" nonsense which seems to permeate through much of the present day Tory Party, resulting in the current economic crisis.

To be fair, it is consistent given they think the best way to help the poor is to make them even poorer, and the best way t ok encourage the rich to help is to not regulate them or make them pay much of anything at all. Consistently cunty, but consistent nonetheless.

Plans to scrap "no-fault" evictions will be unveiled by the government today.

The Renters' (Reform) Bill will be published later - three-and-a-half years after the government was elected with a manifesto promise to stop the practice.

Wouldn't Gove's time be better spent actually governing? The contortions on the Labour side can't be any bigger than his own side (Bozo very keen, Truss apparently keen, Sunak scrapping). I'd be surprised if Gove himself were exactly rushing in lots of new houses in Surrey Heath.

Only thing I can think why he pushed this now is so Labour are criticised for more legislation when they’ve already had some.

Otherwise why it’s taken 4 years, then again it’s going be amended to buggery so I have a feeling they won’t get it through.

It should have the votes mind, and I do hope it gets passed or at least picked up by Labour when in Government.
