British Gas owner Centrica and Shell see profits soar as bills rise

In other words, energy price rises are primarily fuelled by greed. The other factors are secondary.

Further to the above, Eon have just announced £3.2bn profits for the first six months of 2022, according to BBC Breakfast.

WFH cause you because it suits you and want a good home/work life balance

Tories 😠

WFH because of no attempt at managing the energy crisis and office is forced to black out

Tories 🙂

Shutting down railways because of strike action 😠

Shutting down railways because we don't have enough power for them 🙂

Good thing we chose to not have chaos with Red Ed Millipede taking us back to the 1970s with an energy crisis, strikes, out of control inflation and rolling blackouts!

Oh.

I expected we would see a 4 day week.

It would be best to implement it sooner and for longer. So expect it to be put off until the whole country blacks out on a Tuesday in January.

My dad lived through the 3 day week and loved the extra free time. Only being paid for 3 days, not so much.

I expect we’ll see a 5-day week arranged for the benefit of employers. You get to WFH, but when the power is off in your offices. When the power is on, you have to come in. And you have to make sure your kit is charged if you’re expecting power cuts where you live so you can continue to work.

Worst of all worlds. So entirely plausible for Tories to try it.

The European Court of Human Rights is a threat to democracy and extricating ourselves from its' pernicious influence should be the UK's number one priority.

Effluella Braverman sPekEs her bRaneS

Ministers should “take radical action” to counter the influence of European human rights rules to curb a burgeoning industry of highly paid equalities officers touting bogus grievances, Suella Braverman, the UK government’s chief law officer, has argued.

The attorney general said it was “a national priority” to extricate the UK from the influence of the European court of human rights, saying the court’s interventionist approach on rights issues potentially jeopardised democracy...

"saying the court’s interventionist approach on rights issues potentially jeopardised democracy..."

FFS, "jeopardising democracy!" The sort of language the Kremlin would use in an attempt to troll local political opponents & otherwise nominally civilised countries.

The argument seems to go that at the last GE/referendum/dawn of time a decision was made to back the Tories/Brexit/whatever. Consequently, any attempt to block their plans is sneering in the faces of every moron who voted for them, and it's no good saying something's not physically possible, because that's just yellow bellied defeatist leftie traitor talk!!!

One of the more poisonous effects of Johnson's reign has been the entwining of flag and government. Opposing them is traitorous; the Executive is sovereign.

This week the Entain group which owns Ladbrokes and Coral was fined £17m for unacceptable failures. Among other things they were allowing money laundering and failing to help problem gamblers. Guess who works for the company?
The Shipley MP, Philip Davies, earned nearly £50,000 working for Entain and received £6,788 of tickets to sporting events from Entain, Gamesys, Starsports, Flutter and the BGC.
