Have managed to listen to the first hour and a half of Cruella Braverman's stint as holiday cover for James O' Brien.

She is doing her very best to sound reasonable, balanced, and not batshit insane. Not sure it's working.

So far, she has discussed "illegal " migration - lamenting the cancellation of the Rwanda gimmick, lies about safe routes to asylum under the Tories, still thinks the UK should leave the ECHR. She's also discussed US politics : She thinks Donald Trump should be elected because he will restore world peace, and thinks Kamala Harris is just all about "identity politics"'.

Basically a sort of Cruella's greatest hits. I dare say it was to be expected.

The levels of sheer hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness are off the scale.

Times radio is worth a listen in that spot. Old hands Danny ‘sane Tory’ Finkelstein and Peter Mandelson cast their weary eyes over the political scene.

And Braverman might be right about Trump restoring peace in Europe as Russian tanks rumble into Kyiv. And Vilnius, Tbilisi and Riga.

I don't know how you do it, mate. Whether at home or in the car, I've stopped listening to anything other than music on the radio now, and never watch news/current affairs programmes on TV either. I can simply no longer bear the endless blether, bullshit, dishonestly , dogma and ideology offered up to us mere mortals as something deserving of our attention. Why do TV and radio producers think that the public are going to gain some great insight into an issue by inviting some twat from The Spectator to talk about the NHS for example? Same with Braverman: who is she? What has she actually done in her life and why should anyone care what she thinks about anything? The hubris is just breath taking.

Politics TV is cheap TV. Cheap news, cheap content, and if you're lucky someone will say something and someone else will take offence and it'll be some "good telly"* worth plenty of "secondary views"**.

*AKA we dun had a row.

**AKA ha ha look at this bloke, he just said shit.

I tapped out at roughly the same time as Abernathy. Absolutely woeful. The people who phoned in got to speak for about twenty seconds before she launched into a form rant, thanked them for the respectful conversation and moved on.

She repeatedly described asylum claimants as queue jumpers. Sadly no one had the opportunity to ask where this queue was and how one got on it. (Spoilers - there are no safe and legal routes so no queue.)

She made Rwanda sound like a wonderful place. She told us about a refugee from a neighbouring country who settled in Rwanda and built a wonderful life with his own chain of convenience stores. I thought that sounded wonderful and exactly the sort of person we'd want to be coming here and starting a new life. Again, there was no opportunity to point out that if refugees in Rwanda are so brilliant why are asylum seekers in Britain so bad?

I could go on but that was a flavour of the lies and hypocrisy on show.

She also made a point of mentioning, after every single ad or news break, that she was sitting in James's seat and how he must be hating hearing her while he was on holiday. Ooh, edgy. I imagine James is having a great time with his family and couldn't give a shiny one. Not a second thought as long as the studio is thoroughly disinfected and the production team get counselling before he gets back.

The weather has been glorious, so I have been WFH today (das Pool, as it is known in German), but I have managed to listen to most of the show on catch-up.

It was a masterclass in JOB's well worn technique of merely playing back the actual words of the miscreant. A wince-fest for the ages and a wonderful, systematic filleting of the toad-faced fascist!

Have there been Farage riots on Germany?

Just asking ... to clarify whether they might be the Mrs. Farage riots.

Just when you thought that News Agents couldn't get any better, today's Goodall interview with Maitlis about hers with Andrew Windsor and the forthcoming telly drama about said seminal moment in the establishment's downfall; it is beyond magnificent.

The feeling at the end of it is one of pure exhilaration and relief that journalism is not a busted flush.

Quality talk radio, whether it be cricket commentary or a political interview, is still the finest medium of them all.
