Andrew O’Hagan’s The Tower is one of the worst things the LRB has published in all the years I’ve been reading it. This is one of the best.

My LRB subscription is a foundation stone of my life as a pseud, and as such I cannot possibly be without it - the odd iffy whatnot aside.

It’s not like I cancelled my subscription over it, but since The Tower I’ve found it difficult to read O’Hagan’s stuff. The online version has added corrections now, but having read it again as a precursor to Butler’s piece it seems to me to be founded on a handful of rotten premises which render the thing unsalvageable. And that’s before you get to the tone deaf arrogance of his responses to criticism. Since he’s probably not going to apologise for all he got wrong, it’s good to have a corrective.

Give us a synopsis as to why Andy O'Hagan's views on Grenfield as so bad. Is he an ultra deregulation libertarian?
