Sad news about John Prescott's death.

He was a rarity, a genuine working class man who rose up the ladder of Labour politics to become deputy prime minister. Whatever one's view of him, he always stood up for his beliefs.

Britain desperately needs more of the likes of him in politics, otherwise it will continue to be the preserve of both the wealthy and well-connected.

Prescott had to eat shit and comprise many of his beliefs in the new Labour yeard but you believed it was a price worth paying for power if it came from him.
