Understandable a government wants opposition finger prints on the future of social care finance. Can't keep going on shouting 'death taxes' every time an administration seeks a mandate for reform.
Wes Streeting said he wanted all parties to “agree on the direction on social care for the long term” and that the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Reform party had all said they would work together on it.

This substack some of my thoughts here.

This reflects a broader problem with Labour. It’s not like I expected the Dilnot review to be implemented after July’s decision, so in a sense the Streeting announcement is better than nothing. But not much.

If you are fortunate enough to win an electoral majority numbering in the hundreds you really do need to DO SOMETHING WITH IT. Labour have a relatively long list of processes that have begun engaging in. But in terms of actual tangible accomplishments, it’s basically just on-shore wind farms and a few other policies from Ed Miliband and the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. Yes, the conservative press hate Miliband’s policies but he is actually doing the things he said he would do, even though unpopular, because - and I can’t reiterate this enough - LABOUR HAVE A HUGE MAJORITY. Our electoral system has all kinds of problems but one thing it can do, by creating majorities, is enable effective government. So have an effect!
I don't agree with all of it. They have done things but it feels like nothing is being done it's all talk.

Could you possibly expand on that ? Specifically, what are the things that make you feel as if “nothing is being done”? Why do you think “it’s all talk”?

Don’t you make it your business as a Labour Party member and supporter, to stay abreast of what our government is actually doing? Not believe what hostile media commentators are saying that it has not done ?

You know, stuff like legislation to establish Great British Energy. The National Wealth Fund ? Rail Nationalisation ? Free school breakfast clubs? Local authority control of bus services ? Planning reform ? an ambitious house-building programme ? Renters’ rights reforms ? New employment rights ? Scrapping the hideous Rwanda gimmick? A massive initial injection of funding for the NHS, with a start on long-term reform via the Darzi Report?

You know, all that stuff. Why do you dismiss it as all talk ?

They would but we've been here before, and with social care, in 2009. Cameron broke off talks and told everyone Labour was planning a "death tax", and paid no obvious price at the election.

Yeah and relying on Kemi and Nigel to work with you for the good of the nation isn't the best idea I can think of.

Obviously they've done stuff it's just all that whilst good isn't really cutting through and it some cases it's just been announced and hasn't gone into effect yet.

Stop fucking about with AI you bunch of idiots.

I came here to make a simple statement.
* Tories wasted most of their government campaigning when they should have been governing.
* Labour's focus on governing is at a detriment to a necessary amount of campaigning.

Then I saw the video and thought "sod campaigning - until you get some campaigners".

I think you need to define "cutting through". If it's people dancing in the streets and erecting statues of Keir Starmer then that's clearly total bollocks.

What you do seem to be forgetting is that this government is faced with a quite remarkably hostile news media operation on multiple fronts. If you're saying that yes, the government has done stuff but people just haven't noticed it yet, then just be patient. We have 4 and a half years yet to go.

If you're saying that basically, we need another Alastair Campbell, then I don't disagree.
