This is a not unimportant railway line. This is terrible.

I'm actually relatively impressed they released this information. Maybe some Tory Svengali wanted to release it to make sinking HS2 look less bad.

I nicked this off the Guardian comments
This is another of the issues that lays bare the fact that the entire principle behind neoliberalism is based upon bullshit.

Wealth "trickles down" to the rest of us (lies), privatisation is "cheaper and more efficient" (lies) and the private sector sector "promotes competition and therefore innovation" (more lies).

The fact is that the neoliberal model promotes short term profit seeking, nothing more.
So if a cartel of monolithic, monopolistic corporations find it easier to profit from milking its own assets by regurgitating them over and over and over again, then that's what they'll do. And if one of these "agile, innovative start ups" does appear to threaten their market dominance they will either swat them like a fly or absorb them like The Thing (and not even John Carpenter's the Thing...more like the soulless, pointless CGI-infested reboot).

"Innovation" won't even enter into the equation.

'Hundreds' fall ill in Brixham as investigation launched

https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-ne ... ed-9283232
A suspected outbreak of cryptosporidium, which is believed to be affecting hundreds of people in Brixham according to comments on social media, is currently being investigated. Symptoms include profuse watery diarrhoea, stomach pains, nausea or vomiting, low-grade fever and loss of appetite, and usually last between one to two weeks.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), which is leading the investigation, is yet to confirm any details about the alleged outbreak. South West Water (SWW) has confirmed the tests it has carried out on the quality of drinking water in Brixham have currently all come back clear.

Cryptosporidium can be found in the intestines and faeces of infected humans and animals and can be caused by swimming in or drinking contaminated water as well as other sources such as contaminated food.

Possible "shit in the water" connection.
Welcome to world beating tory Britain.
Who will they blame : wokes, tofu, small boats, the blob?

South West Water's "It wasn't me - tests showed no contamination" of yesterday has been revised.

Boil water warning after parasite found

People across south Devon have been advised to boil their tap water as 22 cases of a diarrhoea-type illness have been confirmed.

A further 70 suspected cases are also being investigated.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said the parasite, cryptosporidium, was "predominantly a waterborne disease".

Meanwhile, United Utilities are splitting hairs over exactly how much shit they've dumped in Windermere.

"We haven't dumped 10 million gallons!", they cry, and they're technically correct. They've dumped some millions of gallons, but unless you can guess the exact figure, they will deny it.
