Election time.

Totally normal liberal democracy in action here, with its totally normal independent central bank governor. Who cut interest rates much more than expected a month before the election.

“This is the sort of chap we need in Threadneedle Street,” explained Mr Rees Mogg.

I don't normally agree with Jacob, but he's saying what the left should be saying, added Paul Embery.

It's the hope that kills, isn't it?

Listening to a dismally depressing report on Law and Justice’s state capture last week. Not only the attacks on the judiciary but having the national media sown up with placemen. Maybe this is the first sign of a generational change in Europe.

We are just back from dinner; a very pleasantly cobbled together table with a couple of Poles.

We were watching our phones as 21:00 struck, and the mood was not exactly euphoric. Then the text messages started coming in from Warsaw and especially from Katowice, where, apparently, they are spontaneously dancing in the streets - possibly not everywhere but at least where Paulina's mother lives.

PiS are fucked, and an opposition coalition is now odds-on possible.

Viva Poska!

Don’t make unnecessary predictions unless you’re an arse.

The results are nearly all in. PiS are fucked. One of their mouthpieces gracefully said high turnout in cities may have been inflated by “foreign NGOs”. Not even Farage would try that one.

There has been quite some analysis of the east-west split of the vote and how the west has broken for the Good Guys.

It is worth remembering that, once the ethnic Germans were driven out, a lot of Ukranians were bussed in to Pomerania and Dolnośląskie. They ain't much enamoured with the prospect of more Russian influence.

"Trumpy tower has fallen" was a message I received this morning from one of the lads who restored my last house in Pollokshields (circa 2003) and who has remained a great friend ever since.

They're not taking it well, are they?

Law and Justice have no allies to form a government. Sounds like the BG are projecting the future of the Tory party and its Reform outriders dwindling in the early 30s and no prospect of arresting demographic decline. George Osborne could have told them that 15 years ago.

How lovely to see Poland returning today to civilised government with Donald Tusk at the helm. Lech Wałęsa's tears of joy are an inspiration to us all.

See? If you want a job done properly, get the Polish lads in.
