He's former Labour, but he seems to be doing fairly well among people who voted for other parties, like a traditional independent might.

Either that's wrong, or there is something interesting happening. People who vote for other parties aren't thinking "he was kicked out because he was too lefty, no thanks" but something more like "he's standing as an independent, I'll have a look".

Unfortunately this rings true.

This is a good point. Better than Seb Payne's "Houchen and Street are the ones who really count".

I’m inclined to think that, despite that poll, Houchen may still be toast come Thursday. Which means Sunak will be fucking carbonised by Friday.

It would be nice to think so but you don't lose majorities like that. Not even when you're as corrupt as Houchen.

Oh man. This would not be out of line with the Selby and Ainsty by-election, and Labour piling up votes in York.

Here's how much of a reverse that would be.

This doesn't look good for the government.

Indie ran with this earlier seemingly not checking the rules on which you can run on, which I assume is because they got the story directly from the Conservatives and didn’t bother to do the basic check.

I hope he loses badly after this.

Is this the genuine front page of the Star?

Does it matter?

He's the best comedy candidate I've seen.

How many are just sad blokes with a fancy dress outfit and nothing to say?
Or, for the post Sutch loonies, sad blokes with hats.

...also I've heard a report that Alex Johnson turned up at a polling station with incorrect ID - I'd not be surprised if he did that as a PR stunt.**

I think Khan will win by more than this (too much is being made of Bailey doing better than the polls last time) otherwise I agree.

Is walking out of the polling station humming "Fuck the Tories" a bad thing?

The Police Crime Commisioners elections. Is the whole point of these that lots of them are Tory safe seats? Wonder how many they'll lose. Not West Mercia, probably, and unfortunately.

Just been to cast my vote. I had to laugh when I saw the name of the Reform candidate - Russell Winston Armstrong. He is the only candidate to have his middle name included on the ballot paper.

We didn't even get a Reform candidate. We got an English Democrat though.
