America is, in my considered opinion, fucked.
I realise this is no consolation, but so is the UK.

At least two more years of the Tories, with a fucking demented, thick-as-a-Boxing Day-turd, Thatcher clone at the helm, and a rump of Corbynite Trot nutjobs bent on sabotaging the country’s only hope.

It’s being so cheerful as keeps me going.

I've resigned mysef to the fact that my working life will end as it began - in a low-paid job I should be grateful to have because there's a recession on, and if I don't want it there's plenty that do..

I also look at the likes of Brendan O'Contrary at Spiked.
Then I wonder how many of today's young Corbynites will be rattling off editorials for the Spectator, Mail and Express in fifteen year's time.

Maybe the grift market's passed its peak.

Is it appropriate to send thoughts and prayers ..

Here's my thought.
A least he's still got his looks.

Yeah it's not as conservative as say Oklahoma

Interesting thread on why Kansas rejected this amendment

The messaging seems to have been very good. When Kansas was polled in 2014, support for abortion rights was 49-49,

I would think that had moved slightly towards support since then, judging by Trump not doing all that well in Kansas, but I wouldn't have expected a landslide like this.

The stakes are different, too. A theoretical, never-never ban is easy to support. But when it could be you, or your daughter, or your wife, or your bit on the side it's a whole other ballgame.

It's a reasonably common phenomenon: it's easy to support something that seems theoretical. Possibility and proximity have a tendency to focus the mind

Message from a Texan friend over the weekend.

State governments are one thing, but it's up to local sherrifs and attorneys to enforce the law, and up to local judges to convict people. A lot of blind eyes are being turned at that local level.

FBI executes search warrant on Trump's Florida home

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-62472908

...regardless of what the FBI was exactly searching the premises for, I can be pretty certain of one thing - to get an American federal judge to grant a search warrant executed at the home of an ex-POTUS, the bar for doing so would be pretty fucking high with a shit ton of evidence needing to be presented.

I though the whole point of the FBI was that it wasn't local.

A national police organisation to prevent hoodlums making home runs across state lines, and to ensure local sherrifs don't turn a blind eye to the big stuff.

That might be reading too much into it. Americans generally dunk on "Washington", and it suits Trump to make it sound like it comes directly from Biden.
