An absolutely disastrous result for Biden and the Dems. Just a few months after an actual coup attempt, Republican leaders will quite reasonably conclude that they can get away with anything now - the American public are not going to hold them to account.

One ray of sunshine is that this result should hopefully put a rocket up the Dems and they will actually start passing some meaningful legislation rather than staring out the window. Still not a single bill passed so far to protect basic voting rights.

The Byzantium procedures of Congress are bit beyond me but has Biden picked up the phone to New York's state prosecutor to see how the Al Capone tax case is coming along? The Republicans want a civil war anyway and Trump will give it to them so why pussy foot around?

I for one think Glenn Youngkin will keep his promise and ensure that school children in Virginia aren't taught an obscure bit of sociology. Like they aren't at the moment. I assume Glenn is a charter schools man. See how that goes with parental involvement.

There is an economic element to the poor Biden approval at the moment though, I think. Lots of panic about inflation, which should settle down once the high numbers from the start of the year drop out of the figures. If Manchin is in good faith, which lots don't think he is, they'll get some big stuff passed to run on next year. But it's pretty gloomy.

Terry McAuliffe's gaffe about parents shouldn't be telling what thy teach hurt him. Also the fact that no media outlet pointed out that CRT isn't taught in schools in Virginia didn't help me.

Down ticket races were poor for the Democrats a year ago, I wonder if this a knock on from that, termed with the fact Biden hasn’t yet done much of note.

All the play Lincoln Report made of Trump being told not to go VA, maybe that helps. It’s the elephant they have yet to fully reckon with and I think in some places him not showing up is a good thing.

Dems need to start doing stuff the Republicans claim they would, no point being nice, same with Labour over here,

Also from the Texas story:

Texas governor writes puzzling letter about ‘pornography’ in school libraries as new culture war targets literature

Governor Greg Abbott has written to the Texas Association of School Boards asking the organisation to determine whether “pornography or other inappropriate content” exists in the state’s public school libraries.

And in Iowa:

Apologies for the double post, but:

I'd add Kyrsten Sinema to that list. Even her own constituency's getting fed up of her.

They're saying "pornography and other content" because no reasonable person would want children accessing porn. But of course that's their foot in the door.

Same as Jayda Fransen saying that all she cared about was protecting the kids, or "animal lovers" whose interest in animals seems to be limited to one particular form of animal slaughter and food preparation, or so many more...

Outside of Virginia they're have been some good results the Democrats have won a load of mayoralties plus in the other Governor election in New Jersey the Democratic Governor appears to have won that one.
