Meanwhile in Canada

Haven't been familiar with many Canadian politicians up until now. Because of the Trump induced crisis and also we of course know the new PM Mark Carney.
The Brexit headbangers will be livid despite saving the economy from their stupidity in 2016. Whether this competent technocrat has the corresponding political street smarts to fend off his right wing opponent Pierre Poilievre I don't know. I understand like so many on the British right, he's busy rewriting his history of pro Trump echoes.
The foreign secretary Melanie Joly also comes across as an impressive figure.

Polls seem all over the place at the moment but it’s not just one pollster now leaning that way, Carney does seem to have the best figures.

According to the BBC this could be a big problem for Starmer, though having read it I couldn’t quite spot the problem or how it would be that different to Trudeau.

Faisal Islam's take is that Carney will want Starmer to show his cards on Trump instead of diplomatic tilting.

Carney isn't yet an MP but this kind anointing of a PM before a GE isn't unusual. US speke your branes on social media believe this to be evidence of a coup by the WEF.

Even more tariffs on Canada, as a response to the export tax that Doug Ford placed on Ontario electricity.

My impression from Bluesky is that Ford isn't regarded as a heavyweight of policy and statecraft. I wonder if he's got a bit high on his own supply here. Happy for Trump to take the hit from it though.

However mad Mr Ford gets, Trump can outmad him in both senses
