Christ, reading that exchange reminded me of the emotionally volatile chavs at school erupting at teachers requesting them to smarten up their school uniform.
And unsurprisingly he's from Essex, where face masks seem to magically vanish the moment you cross over the county line.

Once again, the phrase "stupid is as stupid does" springs to mind.

The Archbishop of Canterbury shows he's in touch with the common people.
The archbishop of Canterbury has said that people will have felt “sorrow and sadness” seeing the photograph of Downing Street staff drinking together last May because it will have reminded them of what they sacrificed.
In an interview with ITV, Justin Welby hinted at his disapproval over the gathering, saying that leadership involved setting an example...

While he's wringing his hands over just how much disapproval to show, and wibbling about people feeling sorrow, the people are actually outraged and furious. But when you're one of the establishment you can't rock the boat too much. You might offend someone important. And, of course, his god is a Tory who couldn't give a shit about the common people.

What a complete nob jockey.
Someone elsewhere has just made the very good point. Nicola Sturgeon had the cojones to put Rangers v Celtic behind closed doors. Johnson is dithering to do the same for Oldham v Scunthorpe.

I'm skeptical if this is scientifically sound, and also once they lower it down to 7 days (as a PR stunt for Christmas) there is no way they can pump it back up to 10 days isolation again.
Utter donkeys.

Presumably Liz Truss has negotiated a deal with the virus to stop infecting people after 7 days?

It's now past 3pm, and there doesn't seem to be any mention of announcements or press conferences today.
So although Christmas Day itself seems to be sorted, what about after? Hospitality needs to know what alterations they have to make. Football clubs need to know if they have to get refreshment supplies in for crowds. People need to know when any restrictions are going to come in so that they can change their plans if needs be, especially if involves public transport that won't run at the weekend.
It's no good announcing things at 5pm Christmas Eve. It's got to be today or tomorrow at the absolute latest.
Utterly incompetent.

Possibly looking at himself in the mirror wondering if he has the stones to cancel New Years Eve seeing as that was another big knees up people were presumably looking forward to.

Nineteen members of our family were meant to meet up at my parents for Christmas dinner in the past two days six of the potential guests have tested positive so I think we will still be eating the turkey on New Years Eve. Three of the positive cases are university students so I'm guessing plenty more students are likely to be taking the virus homes to the parents.
With most university students returning home before schools broke up numbers could really increase rapidly over the next week or so.

This waiting for the data is one thing, but thing to bear in mind is that according to the below link, chances are that won't be any reliable UK-wide data after Friday for about ten days. Although I would hope that those in alleged charge have access to data that is more immediate and goes beyond the 4pm figures.

The staff at the Asda I was in this morning seem to have found a miracle cure for either not contracting or not passing on the virus. Customers 90/10 masked, staff the reverse.

Yesterday's trip into the Waitrose with possibly the highest percentage of Range Rovers in the cramped car park outside the Home Counties (to wit, Stamford) revealed all the staff were wearing masks, as were pretty much all the customers.
The M&S a few miles away though...

John Pilger will be spitting feathers, BBC's PM programme just had Phony B.Liar on to discuss his idea that basically improved the first phase of the vaccine rollout and his calls for the vaccine infrastructure to be retained once this all starts dying down as it could do a lot of good for the world.

Sadly, I never did statistics at school: it was something those who did CSE Mathematics did, but not 'O' levels. If I did, I might understand the tables in this more.

However, it seems to indicate that in my age group, you're 5-6 times more likely to die if you're unvaccinated than vaccinated.
