Britain's 35th greatest film maker speaks out
Loach’s film making is as highly regarded as Clint Eastwood’s and both can do politics well on the screen, strangely.
I enjoyed Kes and Land and Freedom and, although I was too young at the time, I understand Cathy Come Home was ground breaking and important. Other than that, I think he's overrated, repetitive and cliched. I would dispute that he 'does politics well' on screen as I don't believe he reaches the people who would gain from hearing his message. Just like Corbyn's rallies, people who watch Loach's films are those who don't need to.
And therein lies the problem with the whole Corbyn myth. It's all about what was happening a lifetime ago. Fighting modern elections on a seventies platform is like using cavalry in World War Two.

I really wish I could forget the Corbyn years like nothing happened.

Well, of course we cannot, and should not, forget the Corbyn debacle. Because we can't risk it happening again. Maybe that is why Loach wants us to think it's been "removed from the public discourse".

There've been strikes v the Welsh Government. Would Jez turn up on picket lines for these? Or for strikes v TfL/ Sadiq Khan?
It's up to him what he does, and I'm sure lots of people on strike have appreciated his support. But I think it's obvious why that isn't a coherent position for the frontbench. I recall he and McDonnell massively pissed Heidi Alexander off as Shadow Health Secretary when they went over her head and showed up in person on picketlines.

"Removed from public discourse" is the same as "Why is nobody talking about...?". People are, but they're just not loudly agreeing with you.

"You're not listening!"
"I am listening, I'm just not giving you the answer you want..."

Because as ever, projecting a suitably worthy, pious look to a certain group was far more important than what turning up actually meant or would result in. But of course it’s people like Jess Philips who are image obsessed…
See also his sanctimonious meddling in apartheid demonstrations and Northern Ireland.

That's a very good point on another forum I have to deal with a poster who seems to think that Starmer should stand with striking workers all them time becasue the clue is in the name as he's fond of saying. So next time he brings that point I'll use your point about the Welsh government.

Couldn’t you slip that into any sporting event? And just as meaningless.

Please do. Even without the Welsh Government and TfL facing strikes, you'll face them yourselves in Government (one day).

Is there any connection between the first statement and the second? He may as well have said he likes kitkats, it’s such a non-sequitur.

It appears to be a reference to Arab teams (and some fans) waving Palestinian flags.
So not global support.
"
Abbas thanks Qatar for using World Cup to push Palestinian cause
Palestinian Authority president praises Doha for ‘unprecedented’ show of support at close of soccer tournament that saw Palestinian flag featured prominently on world stage"

“Arab nation shows support for Arabs” is hardly a shocker.
Still, surprised Jez even mentioned it - I would have thought football was a bit beneath him as not worthy enough. Well, international football anyway - I’m sure the dreamy image of working class men in flat caps eating gristle pies, drinking bovril and discussing strike action while watching Shitford Steelworks Athletic FC (of 3rd division Bollock Homes League) in the pissing rain in November in the poor northern town of Pithead-on-Dyke rustles his jimmies.
Shame that such a brown-tinted spectacles vision bears no relation to most people’s reality these days. Actual lower leagues fans would probably be about as interested to hear from an Islington-based lifelong skiver about the latest news on Venuezuelan socialism as they would be to take a sledgehammer to their own genitals.

I'll get me not a donkey jacket but in fact a perfectly acceptable black coat and the queen mum said so.
